<strong>The</strong> Berkshire District Medical Society, a chapter <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Massachusetts Medical Society, <strong>of</strong>fers a revolving scholarship loan<br />

<strong>to</strong> medical students who reside in Berkshire County (Western Massachusetts) and who are attending medical and osteopathic<br />

medicine schools in <strong>the</strong> US and Canada. <strong>The</strong> Award, up <strong>to</strong> a maximum <strong>of</strong> $5,000, is renewable annually for <strong>the</strong> four years or<br />

remaining years <strong>of</strong> medical school at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> scholarship committee. <strong>The</strong> recipient agrees <strong>to</strong> repay <strong>the</strong> interest<br />

free loan beginning <strong>the</strong> first year after medical school graduation. <strong>The</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r basic terms <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> loan are outlined on <strong>the</strong><br />

application. Application deadline is April 15 th .<br />

• State Loan Repayment Program<br />

<strong>The</strong> Massachusetts State Loan Repayment Program (MSLRP) is designed <strong>to</strong> help reduce shortages <strong>of</strong> primary health care<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essionals practicing in public or non-pr<strong>of</strong>it private health care facilities across <strong>the</strong> Commonwealth. Loan repayment<br />

funds are used <strong>to</strong> enhance <strong>the</strong> recruitment and retention efforts <strong>of</strong> community health centers and o<strong>the</strong>r health care agencies<br />

which provide care <strong>to</strong> medically-underserved populations. Physicians and Dentists are eligible for up <strong>to</strong> $40,000. In loan<br />

repayment for a two year commitment. Nurse practitioners, midwives, physician assistants and <strong>the</strong>rapists are eligible for up<br />

<strong>to</strong> $25,000 for a two year commitment.<br />

• Minnesota Physician, Nurse & Mid Level Loan Repayment Program<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are two Physician Loan Repayment programs – <strong>the</strong> Rural program and <strong>the</strong> Urban program. <strong>The</strong> Rural Physician<br />

program is available <strong>to</strong> family practice, pediatric and internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatric residents.<br />

Designated rural areas include areas in Minnesota outside <strong>the</strong> seven county metro area and outside <strong>the</strong> cities <strong>of</strong> Duluth,<br />

Rochester, Manka<strong>to</strong>, S. Cloud and Moorhead. <strong>The</strong> Urban Physician Loan Repayment Program is available <strong>to</strong> family practice,<br />

pediatric, and internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatric residents. Designated urban areas include<br />

federally designated urban Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Shortage Areas or Medically Underserved Areas.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Rural Mid Level Practitioner Loan Repayment program is available <strong>to</strong> Nurse Practitioner, Nurse-Mid-wife, Nurse<br />

Anes<strong>the</strong>tist, Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Physician Assistant Students. Designated rural areas include areas in<br />

Minnesota outside <strong>the</strong> seven county metro area and outside <strong>the</strong> cities <strong>of</strong> Duluth, Rochester, Manka<strong>to</strong>, S. Cloud and<br />

Moorhead. <strong>The</strong> Nurses Loan Repayment Program is available <strong>to</strong> Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse students.<br />

Providers must participate in a Nursing Home or ICFMR in <strong>the</strong> State <strong>of</strong> Minnesota a minimum <strong>of</strong> 30 hours per week.<br />

NEW HAMPSHIRE<br />

• New Hampshire Primary Care Provider – Loan Repayment Program<br />

<strong>The</strong> New Hampshire’s Provider Loan Repayment Program is open <strong>to</strong> physicians who practice in <strong>the</strong> specialities <strong>of</strong> Family<br />

Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, OGBYN’s as well as Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse<br />

Midwives and Physician Assistants. To participate in <strong>the</strong> program, physicians must be board eligible or board certified in <strong>the</strong><br />

primary care specialities and hold a New Hampshire license <strong>to</strong> practice. All candidates must be willing <strong>to</strong> sign a two year<br />

contract with <strong>the</strong> state and practice two years in <strong>the</strong> selected under-served community.<br />
