The Berkshire District Medical Society, a chapter of the Massachusetts Medical Society, offers a revolving scholarship loan
to medical students who reside in Berkshire County (Western Massachusetts) and who are attending medical and osteopathic
medicine schools in the US and Canada. The Award, up to a maximum of $5,000, is renewable annually for the four years or
remaining years of medical school at the discretion of the scholarship committee. The recipient agrees to repay the interest
free loan beginning the first year after medical school graduation. The other basic terms of the loan are outlined on the
application. Application deadline is April 15 th .

• State Loan Repayment Program
The Massachusetts State Loan Repayment Program (MSLRP) is designed to help reduce shortages of primary health care
professionals practicing in public or non-profit private health care facilities across the Commonwealth. Loan repayment
funds are used to enhance the recruitment and retention efforts of community health centers and other health care agencies
which provide care to medically-underserved populations. Physicians and Dentists are eligible for up to $40,000. In loan
repayment for a two year commitment. Nurse practitioners, midwives, physician assistants and therapists are eligible for up
to $25,000 for a two year commitment.

• Minnesota Physician, Nurse & Mid Level Loan Repayment Program

There are two Physician Loan Repayment programs – the Rural program and the Urban program. The Rural Physician
program is available to family practice, pediatric and internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatric residents.
Designated rural areas include areas in Minnesota outside the seven county metro area and outside the cities of Duluth,
Rochester, Mankato, S. Cloud and Moorhead. The Urban Physician Loan Repayment Program is available to family practice,
pediatric, and internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatric residents. Designated urban areas include
federally designated urban Health Professional Shortage Areas or Medically Underserved Areas.
The Rural Mid Level Practitioner Loan Repayment program is available to Nurse Practitioner, Nurse-Mid-wife, Nurse
Anesthetist, Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Physician Assistant Students. Designated rural areas include areas in
Minnesota outside the seven county metro area and outside the cities of Duluth, Rochester, Mankato, S. Cloud and
Moorhead. The Nurses Loan Repayment Program is available to Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse students.
Providers must participate in a Nursing Home or ICFMR in the State of Minnesota a minimum of 30 hours per week.

• New Hampshire Primary Care Provider – Loan Repayment Program

The New Hampshire’s Provider Loan Repayment Program is open to physicians who practice in the specialities of Family
Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, OGBYN’s as well as Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse
Midwives and Physician Assistants. To participate in the program, physicians must be board eligible or board certified in the
primary care specialities and hold a New Hampshire license to practice. All candidates must be willing to sign a two year
contract with the state and practice two years in the selected under-served community.
