AHBAI is accepting scholarship applications from college-bound students through it's Fred Luster, Sr.<br />

Education Foundation. Scholarships will be awarded in <strong>the</strong> amounts <strong>of</strong> $250 and $500. Winners will be selected<br />

based on <strong>the</strong>ir academic achievement, school activities and extracurricular activities.<br />

To be eligible for a scholarship: Candidates must be college-bound high school seniors enrolled at a four-year<br />

college, majoring in chemistry, business or engineering. A minimum 3.0 grade point average (4.0 scale) and<br />

two letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation, pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> income (W2) are also required.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Fred Luster, Sr. Education Foundation was established by <strong>the</strong> AHBAI Board <strong>of</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>rs in 1991 in honor<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Fred Luster, Sr., a founding AHBAI board member and founder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chicago-based Luster<br />

Products, Inc. To date, <strong>the</strong> Foundation has awarded more than $235,000 in <strong>scholarships</strong>.<br />

This program is designed <strong>to</strong> encourage African-American, Hispanic, and American Indian students <strong>to</strong> pursue<br />

undergraduate degrees in <strong>the</strong> chemical sciences. <strong>The</strong> Society will award approximately 100 <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong><br />

undergraduate students pursuing four-year degree programs in chemical sciences; those interested in<br />

transferring from two-year colleges <strong>to</strong> four-year colleges <strong>to</strong> pursue chemical science degrees; and <strong>to</strong> two-year<br />

students intending <strong>to</strong> pursue degrees in chemical technology. High school students who will be entering college<br />

for <strong>the</strong> first time as undergraduate college students are also eligible.<br />

• American Meteorological Society (from fields <strong>of</strong> atmospheric sciences, chemistry, computer sciences,<br />

engineering, environmental sciences, hydrology, ma<strong>the</strong>matics, oceanography, and physics)<br />

<strong>The</strong> AMS, in partnership with industry and government agencies, awards graduate fellowships for first year<br />

graduate students in <strong>the</strong> atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. <strong>The</strong> fellowships are intended<br />

<strong>to</strong> encourage outstanding students <strong>to</strong> pursue an advanced degree in <strong>the</strong>se fields. <strong>The</strong> fellowships are available <strong>to</strong><br />

students entering <strong>the</strong>ir first year <strong>of</strong> graduate school and are intended <strong>to</strong> permit maximum formal participation<br />

during <strong>the</strong> year. Prospective candidates from <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> atmospheric sciences, chemistry, computer sciences,<br />

engineering, environmental sciences, hydrology, ma<strong>the</strong>matics, oceanography, and physics who intend <strong>to</strong><br />

pursue advanced degrees in <strong>the</strong> atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences are encouraged <strong>to</strong><br />

apply.<br />

<strong>The</strong> AMS encourages applications from women, minorities and disabled students, traditionally<br />

underrepresented in <strong>the</strong> atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences.<br />
