1. Must be resident <strong>of</strong> Western New York Osteopathic Medical Society area, Wnyoms are counties <strong>of</strong><br />

Niagara, Eric, Chautaugua, Cattaraugus, Orleans, Genesee and Wyoming.<br />

2. Must be junior or senior Osteopathic Medical Student.<br />

3. Must demonstrate financial need.<br />

Loans are awarded in July and are applied <strong>to</strong>ward tuition for 3 rd or 4 th year beginning August/ September.<br />

• Western New New York Osteopathic Medical Society Annual Scholarship (1/06)<br />

<strong>The</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> scholarship fund is <strong>to</strong> promote osteopathic medicine and education in <strong>the</strong> Western New York area,<br />

Western New York being defined as <strong>the</strong> eight counties <strong>of</strong> Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Orleans, Wyoming, Allegheny,<br />

Chautaugua and Cattaraugus.<br />

Those eligible for <strong>the</strong> award would be Osteopathic medical students in <strong>the</strong>ir fourth year <strong>of</strong> matriculation that <strong>have</strong> ei<strong>the</strong>r<br />

resided in Western New York greater than four years or who <strong>have</strong> done clinical rotations in Western New York.<br />

Annually, <strong>the</strong>re will be two <strong>scholarships</strong> available in <strong>the</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> five hundred dollars ($500) each. <strong>The</strong> awards will be<br />

based on an applicant’s academic excellence, community service and Western New York heritage.<br />

Applications should be postmarked no later than April 1 st , 2006, winners will be notified by May 15th.<br />

Vocational Rehabilitation Services Assistance<br />

North Carolina residents who are physically or mentally disabled should apply <strong>to</strong> this organization for rehabilitation<br />

assistance. Planning for medical school must be completed with <strong>the</strong> Rehabilitation Counselor prior <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> student's Senior<br />

year in undergraduate school. Each state has a Vocational Rehabilitation Division that could <strong>of</strong>fer comparable financial<br />

assistance. Students may locate <strong>the</strong>ir State Agency by contacting "Information" by phone in <strong>the</strong>ir state capital.
