Must be Alaska Native/American Indian and provide documentation <strong>of</strong> tribal enrollment or pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> descent from a<br />

federally recognized tribe<br />

Current Letter <strong>of</strong> Acceptance from selected educational institution listing declared degree or pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> application<br />

(Tip: <strong>The</strong>re must be a letter <strong>of</strong> acceptance, letter <strong>of</strong> good standing, or letter <strong>of</strong> application from each university<br />

noted.)<br />

Official Transcripts from all colleges attended or high school transcripts if less than 12 college credits <strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong><br />

earned (Tip: To be considered <strong>of</strong>ficial, transcripts must be in a sealed envelope from <strong>the</strong> educational institution.)<br />

• Fresno County Medical Society Scholarship<br />

Up <strong>to</strong> $1,500 is available for students enrolled in or entering medical school. Established in 1962-63, this scholarship fund<br />

was financed originally through excess funds accumulated by <strong>the</strong> Sabin Oral Polio Sunday Clinics. Thirteen physicians who<br />

are members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fresno-Madera Society form <strong>the</strong> committee which administers <strong>the</strong>se <strong>scholarships</strong>. Eligible students are<br />

those who are residents <strong>of</strong> Fresno or Madera County for at least one year. Financial need and high academic performance are<br />

also requirements. No money is given directly <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> recipients, but ra<strong>the</strong>r is used <strong>to</strong>ward tuition, labora<strong>to</strong>ry fees, books, etc.<br />

Medical Scholarship<br />

<strong>The</strong> Lakewood Medical Center Foundation is a non-pr<strong>of</strong>it organization that <strong>of</strong>fers medical <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong> medical, nursing,<br />

and pharmaceutical students. To be eligible, a student must <strong>have</strong> a permanent California address, or a California address <strong>of</strong><br />

record in one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong> cities: Lakewood, Bellflower, Paramount, Downey, Comp<strong>to</strong>n, Signal Hill, Artesia, Cerri<strong>to</strong>s,<br />

Hawaiian Garden, Norwalk or Long Beach. Students must be currently enrolled in a pr<strong>of</strong>essional school and medical students<br />

must <strong>have</strong> completed <strong>the</strong>ir first pr<strong>of</strong>essional year in medical school.<br />

Hillel Medical Scholarship Program<br />

<strong>The</strong> Hillel Medical Scholarship Program was founded in 1950 by a group <strong>of</strong> concerned pr<strong>of</strong>essionals led by Rabbi Juhudah<br />

M. Cohen, who was <strong>the</strong> Pacific Regional direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Hillel. <strong>The</strong> goal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> program is <strong>to</strong> provide <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>of</strong> $1,000 <strong>to</strong><br />
