<strong>The</strong> Alabama Osteopathic Medical Association awards one $2,500 scholarship annually <strong>to</strong> an applicant who is currently<br />

enrolled in a college <strong>of</strong> osteopathic medicine and is in satisfac<strong>to</strong>ry academic standing. Applicant must intend <strong>to</strong> return <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

state <strong>of</strong> Alabama <strong>to</strong> practice medicine for a minimum <strong>of</strong> one year after completing medical school, internship, and residency.<br />

To apply, <strong>the</strong> applicant must provide a biographical letter containing pertinent information regarding background, how/why<br />

you’ve chosen osteopathic medicine as your pr<strong>of</strong>ession, pre-medical education information, and a statement <strong>of</strong> reason/need<br />

for financial assistance. Applicant must also provide a reference from at least one osteopathic physician currently in practice<br />

in <strong>the</strong> State <strong>of</strong> Alabama and academic transcripts from a College <strong>of</strong> Osteopathic Medicine.<br />

Applications for <strong>the</strong> 2007-2008 academic year will be available in late fall 2006.<br />

All applicants will receive a letter regarding whe<strong>the</strong>r or not <strong>the</strong>y <strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong> selected <strong>to</strong> receive a scholarship award or internship.<br />

o ANTHC $5,000 scholarship program<br />

<strong>The</strong> Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) Education and Development department awards five (5)<br />

<strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>of</strong> five-thousand (5,000) dollars per academic year in healthcare-related fields <strong>to</strong> full-time<br />

undergraduate students and five (5) <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>of</strong> five-thousand (5,000) dollars per academic year in healthcarerelated<br />

fields <strong>to</strong> full-time graduate students who are Alaska Native or American Indian permanent Alaska residents.<br />

ANTHC grants <strong>the</strong>se <strong>scholarships</strong> as an integral part <strong>of</strong> its long-term strategy <strong>of</strong> providing <strong>the</strong> highest quality health<br />

care services <strong>to</strong> all Alaska Natives and American Indians. ANTHC graduate <strong>scholarships</strong> provide supplemental<br />

funds for graduate education for students with <strong>the</strong> greatest demonstrated need.<br />

o ANTHC summer internship program<br />

Awards nine-week paid summer internships <strong>to</strong> approximately twenty-five (25) high school and undergraduate<br />

students and five (5) graduate students who are Alaska Native or American Indian permanent Alaska residents.<br />

ANTHC grants <strong>the</strong>se internships as an integral part <strong>of</strong> its long-term strategy <strong>of</strong> providing <strong>the</strong> highest quality health<br />

services <strong>to</strong> all Alaska Natives and American Indians and providing work experience in a range <strong>of</strong> medical<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essions and support services including; finance, human resources, health records, computer technology,<br />

engineering, maintenance, and housekeeping.<br />

o Indian Health Service (IHS) scholarship program<br />

<strong>The</strong> Indian Health Service (IHS) Scholarship provides selected scholarship recipients who are Alaska Native or<br />

American Indian permanent Alaska residents with paid tuition, related fees, a small amount for travel and books,<br />

and a monthly stipend for living expenses. IHS currently funds three (3) health career and allied health career<br />

scholarship programs:<br />
