o F. Edward Hebert Armed Forces Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essions Scholarship Program for Medicine<br />

This program permits selected students <strong>to</strong> be considered as <strong>of</strong>ficers in <strong>the</strong> Medical Corp <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> U.S. Army Reserve<br />

while <strong>the</strong>y are completing medical school. <strong>The</strong> program pays for tuition, books, lab fees and o<strong>the</strong>r expenses<br />

necessary <strong>to</strong> complete school. Also, students will receive a monthly stipend for ten and one-half months each year.<br />

For <strong>the</strong> remaining one and one-half months, students will receive full pay and allowances as a second lieutnant and<br />

will be afforded <strong>the</strong> opportunity <strong>to</strong> work at one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Army's major medical centers. Upon completion <strong>of</strong> medical<br />

school, students will be advanced <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> rank <strong>of</strong> Captain and continue <strong>the</strong>ir training by completion <strong>of</strong> a residency<br />

program. <strong>The</strong> scholarship is <strong>of</strong>fered for 2, 3, and 4 years.<br />

This program pays for full tuition, fees, books, lab fees and o<strong>the</strong>r expenses necessary <strong>to</strong> complete school. Also,<br />

students will receive a monthly stipend for ten and one-half months each year. <strong>The</strong> Air Force requires 45 days <strong>of</strong><br />

Active Duty Training period with pay and allowances as an Air Force second lieutenant while in school for each<br />

year <strong>of</strong> support provided, plus one year <strong>of</strong> active duty service after completion <strong>of</strong> internship and residency training.<br />

o U.S. Naval Reserve Specialized Training Assistance Program (STIPEND)<br />

This program is available <strong>to</strong> certain physician specialists enrolled in full-time accredited programs in critically<br />

needed areas. <strong>The</strong> Naval Reserve is a force <strong>of</strong> highly trained people available in a national emergency <strong>to</strong> meet <strong>the</strong><br />

expanded needs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> regular Navy. Most reservists serve in a part-time status consisting <strong>of</strong> two days a month and<br />

an annual two-week period <strong>of</strong> duty called Annual Training. A stipend is paid on a monthly basis. For each year<br />

financial assistance is given, participants incur a two-year drilling obligation in <strong>the</strong> Naval Reserve after completion<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> training program. Participants receive pay in addition <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> stipend payment. For more information contact<br />
