Ka<strong>the</strong>rine F. Gruber Scholarships<br />

Scholarships are awarded <strong>to</strong> dependent children and spouses <strong>of</strong> blinded veterans <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> U.S. Armed Forces. <strong>The</strong> veteran must be<br />

legally blind; <strong>the</strong> blindness may ei<strong>the</strong>r be service-connected or non-service-connected. Applicants must be accepted for admission or<br />

enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited institution <strong>of</strong> higher education, or business, secretarial or vocational training school.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are 16 <strong>scholarships</strong> awarded--eight $2,000 <strong>scholarships</strong> and eight $1,000 <strong>scholarships</strong>. <strong>The</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> are awarded for one<br />

year only. A recipient will be limited <strong>to</strong> receiving four <strong>scholarships</strong>.<br />

Applications must be returned no later than April 16.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Society awards <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>of</strong> at least $1,000 each annually <strong>to</strong> worthy medical students. <strong>The</strong> applicants are<br />

judged according <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir academic achievements, financial needs, community service records and essays. Special<br />

credit is also given <strong>to</strong> those who are willing <strong>to</strong> serve <strong>the</strong> Chinese communities after <strong>the</strong>ir graduation.<br />

Applications are available beginning April <strong>of</strong> each year. Information and applications obtainable from <strong>the</strong> Society's<br />

Internet Web page. Completed applications are usually due by <strong>the</strong> first Friday in Oc<strong>to</strong>ber.<br />
