Head Coach 

27th Season 

Head coach Michael Grandall is 

in his 27th season at the helm of 

UND’s cross country and track 

and field teams. He took over the 

men’s cross country and track 

and field coaching position in 

1982-83 and additionally coached women’s cross country at 

UND from 1980-84. 

Numerous Fighting Sioux athletes have attained All-America status 

during Grandall’s tenure. Most recently, Matt Litzinger won 

the national title in the javelin at the 2008 NCAA Division II 

outdoor championships. Litzinger became UND’s first men’s 

individual national track & field champion since 1989 by finishing 

first. His national title was the ninth in UND men’s track and 

field history and the sixth national outdoor title. Matt Fick took 

third in the event at the championships. Both Fick and Litzinger 

repeated as All-Americans in 2008, after Litzinger took sixth 

place in the event while Fick came in eighth in 2007. 

In May, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches 

Association (USTFCCCA) selected the UND men’s team as the 

2008 Outdoor Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year. 

Grandall is a native of Lignite, N.D., where he won the North 

Dakota State Class B title in the 100 and 220-yard dashes. 

Grandall is a 1970 graduate of Minot State. Grandall coached 

and taught at Mohall (N.D.) High School from 1970-1976 and 

1977-79 until coming to UND in 1979 to complete a master’s 

degree in physical education. He served as a graduate assistant in 

physical education at UND from 1979-81 and assisted in cross 

country and track. In 1981-82, Grandall was the intramural 

director at UND. 

Grandall is certified as an Education Level II with the United 

States of America Track and Field (USATF) Coaches 

Association. Grandall was also named a referee for the prestigious 

Drake Relays in 1995. 

Other recent All-Americans include Tyler Stoltz, who finished 

fifth in the javelin at the 2005 outdoor championships, 2004 outdoor 

All-American Jason Cook, who finished fifth in the discus 

one year earlier, and most recently prior to that 2002 indoor All- 

Americans Aaron Berndt and Mike Backes. 

In 2002, indoor All-Americans Aaron Berndt and Mike Backes 

placed fourth and fifth nationally in the 800-meters and triple 

jump, respectively. 

Norm McGee was a five-time national champion and 13-time 

All-American in the sprint events in the mid-to-late 1980’s under 

Grandall, and Dave Levos was a two-time national champion 

and five-time All-American in the mid-80’s in the throws. Both 

were inducted into the UND Athletic Hall of Fame; Levos was 

enshrined in 2000 and McGee in 2001. 

Steve Burian, Scott Jemtrud, Mark Murdock, Marc Sondreal and 

Brian Emerson also won multiple All-America honors under 

Grandall’s guidance. Burian and Murdock each won four All- 

America honors in the shot put, while Sondreal was a four-time 

honoree in the high jump. Emerson was a three-time outdoor All- 

American, twice in the discus and once in the shot put. Other 

All-Americans under Grandall include Tracy Martin, Chuck 

Torrence, Bryan Greenwood, Jon Wrzesinski, Rory Beil, Jared 

Bruggeman, Jim Mallory and Chad Heltemes.

Assistant Coach 

1st Season 

Crystal Cummins enters her first year 

with the women’s Fighting Sioux track 

and field team after previously serving 

as assistant coach for both men’s and 

women’s track and field at Minnesota 

State University, Moorhead during the 

2005-2006 season. At MSUM, she coached jumps and helped lead 

the Dragon women to a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference 

championship in 2006. 

Cummins attended North Dakota State University where she was 

a member of the 2001 women’s indoor national championship 

team. During her track and field career with the Bison, Cummins 

was as a ten-time NCAA Division II All-American in the high 

jump, long jump, and triple jump. In 2003, Cummins was the 

North Central Conferences high jump champion and also received 

regional athlete of the year honors. 

Cummins graduated from NDSU with a degree in political science 

in 2003 and is a 1998 graduate of Fargo South High School. 

NATE 

BAUKOL 

Strength & Conditioning 

Coach 

Nate Baukol is in his third season as 

UND’s director of strength and conditioning, 

and seventh season overall at 

UND. 

Baukol served as assistant strength and 

conditioning coach at UND from 2002 to 2005 before taking a 

similar position at the University of Wyoming in May 2006. 

A native of Moorhead, Minn., Baukol graduated from Minnesota 

State Moorhead in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. 

He received his master’s degree in kiniesiology from UND 

in 2004. 

Baukol is a certified strength coach through the Collegiate 

Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association and the National 

Strength and Conditioning Association. He is also a certified Level 

I Olympic lifting club coach. 

Baukol’s family includes his wife, Jennifer, and their daughter, 

Emma. 

LISA 

ROLLEFSTAD 

Assistant Coach 

3rd Season 

Lisa Rollefstad is entering her third 

year with the Fighting Sioux track and 

field team. Rollefstad previously 

worked at Ferris State University as 

men’s and women’s assistant track and 

field/cross country coach, 

Rollefstad has had five All-Americans under her direction. 

Rollefstad was a graduate assistant coach at Bemidji (Minn.) State 

University during the 2001-2002 athletics season. 

Prior to Bemidji State, Rollefstad was the girls’ basketball coach 

and assistant track and field coach in 2000-2001 at Lakota (N.D.) 

High School. From 1998-2000, she assisted with the track and 

field programs at UND, coaching the sprints, hurdles, pole vault 

and relay events. Rollefstad was a two-time NAIA All-American 

track and field performer in the sprinting events at the University 

of Mary. 

Rollefstad graduated from Mary in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree 

in physical education and received her master’s degree in sports 

studies at Bemidji State in 2007. 

HEIDI 

EVANS 

Volunteer Assistant 

Coach 

A four-time All-American (indoor 

track, outdoor track, cross country) 

and reigning NCAA Division II 

national champion in the 1,500-meter 

run, Heidi Evans is in her first season 

as a volunteer assistant coach with the 

men’s and women’s track and field team. 

Evans earned nine letters in three different sports (track and field, 

cross country and volleyball) at UND. She holds the school record 

in the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:24.66. She was UND’s North 

Central Conference Female Honor Athlete in 2008 and UND’s 

Grace Rhonemus Female Athlete of the Year in 2006-07. In 2008, 

Evans was a recipient of a NCAA post-graduate scholarship. 

A native of Roseau, Minn., Evans graduated from UND last May 

with a degree in physical education and exercise science.

2008 CROSS COUNTRY REVIEW 

The 2008 season proved to be one of many firsts for the Fighting 

Sioux men’s cross country team, highlighted by the first year in 

Division I and the first season as a member of the Great West 

Conference. 

After finishing fifth at the North Central Conference championships, 

the Fighting Sioux went on to take 13th at the NCAA 

Division II North Central Region championships in 2007. 

Adding two new faces to the 2008 roster, the Fighting Sioux, led 

by head coach Michael Grandall, looked to a combination of 

team veterans and newcomers to make their transition into new territory. 

The Fighting Sioux kicked off the season at the Northern State Roe 

Granger Invitational. UND combined for a fourth place finish at 

the meet. Junior Kyle Rosseau (Eagan, Minn.) set the pace for 

UND, finishing the 8k race in a time of 27:23 for 11th place. 

Following closely behind was newcomer Tyler Rose (Brainerd, 

Minn.), who broke into top 15 territory with his 14th place finish 

(27:44). A pair of juniors, Jeremy Jones (Grand Forks, N.D.) and 

Dustin Umland (Thompson, N.D.), who finished the race within 11 seconds of one another, took 22nd and 23rd places, respectively. 

Carl Sedgeman (Fr., Sauk Center, Minn.) turned in a time of 31:21 for 34th place, while Cory Absey (So., Grand Forks, N.D.) took 

37th (31:38) and Joss Blatherwick (So., Bottineau, N.D.) finished in 41st (32:28). 

Next on the schedule was the annual UND Ron Pynn Invitational. Once again, the Rosseau-Rose combination provided the top two 

times for the Fighting Sioux. Rosseau ran to a sixth place finish in a time of 26:53, while Rose crossed the finish line 11 seconds 

later to claim seventh place. Jones ran the 8k race in a time of 28:12 for 14th place while Umland rounded out UND’s top 20 finishes 

with his 19th place finish in a time of 29:10. 

To begin October competition, UND headed to Brookings, S.D. to participate in the South Dakota State Classic. The Fighting Sioux, 

who were once again lead by Rosseau, fought to a ninth place team finish in the 8k race. Rosseau crossed the line in a time of 27:29 

for 37th place, while Rose finished in a time of 27:29 for 51st.

2008 CROSS COUNTRY REVIEW 

UND then hit the road toward Vermillion, S.D. to participate in the annual University of South Dakota Tim Young Invite. All eight 

Fighting Sioux runners would run to top 15 finishes. Leading the charge once again was Rosseau, finishing the 10k course in a 

time of 27:11.75, while Rose finished less than 14 seconds later for a third-fourth place combination. Jones crossed the line at 

28:32.97 for a ninth place finish while Umland, Warweg and Sedgeman completed 

the race in 10th-12th places, respectively. Rounding out the Fighting Sioux 

finishes were Absey (14th–31:13.74) and Blatherwick (15th–31:51.61). 

For the third straight week, the Fighting Sioux found themselves competing in another 

meet on the road. This time, UND traveled to West Salem, Wis. to compete in the 

University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse Drews/Neubauer Invite. Rosseau and Rose would led 

the way for the Fighting Sioux, earning the sole UND top 100 finishes. Rosseau ran the 

8k course in a time of 26:13.3 to capture 49th place, while Rose crossed the line at 

26:57.8 for 95th place. 

The season would come to a close two weeks later when the Fighting Sioux visited 

Orem, Utah to compete in the inaugural Great West Conference Championships. UND 

earned a sixth place team finish in the 8k race. Rosseau wrapped up his successful 2008 

campaign with his 18th place finish (28:01.7), while Rose finished his first season in fine 

form with his 23rd place finish (28:20.7). Jones captured 30th in a time of 29:20.5, while 

Warweg completed the race nearly 40 seconds later for 35th place. Other top-50 finishes 

for the Fighting Sioux were Umland (39th–30:31.4), Sedgeman (40th–30:42.5), 

Absey (43rd–31:25.6) and Blatherwick (45th–32:35.8). 

At the conclusion of the season, the Fighting Sioux voted on their team awards. Jeremy 

Jones, Kyle Roseau and Dustin Umland were recognized as the 2008 team captains. 

Most valuable runner went to Rosseau, who earned the fastest UND time in each of the 

six meets in the 2008 season. Michael Warweg was voted the most improved , while 

Jones was the Sioux Pride award recipient. Jones, along with Umland Tyler Rose, all 

received the hardest worker awards. The Fighting Sioux also garnered another award 

when Cory Absey was named to the 2008 Fall Academic All-Great West Conference 

team.

2009 TRACK AND FIELD PREVIEW 

Major turning points face the Fighting Sioux at every corner this season. Not only does 2008-09 mark the change from 

Division II to Division I for UND, add the fact that two top performers in the javelin throw, including the reigning NCAA 

Division II national champion, graduated last spring. All things considered, this season could be described as a year in transition 

for most universities. 

But North Dakota isn’t most schools. After finishing fourth at both the North Central 

Conference indoor and outdoor championships last season, the Fighting Sioux will jump 

into action, joining the Great West Conference this year. In the face of change, UND is 

led by head coach Michael Grandall, who will be able to rely on a talented mix of both 

returners and newcomers to pave the way into Division I territory. 

Throws: The Fighting Sioux will use a combination of four returning athletes in the 

throwing events this season. Creighton Schroyer (Jr., Pipestone, Minn.), the reigning 

NCC champion in the shotput, is expected to deliver top finishes for UND several events 

this season. Joining Schroyer on the front lines will be Brandon Quesenberry (So., 

Billings, Mont.), who was the runner up in the shot put at the NCC Indoor 

Championships last season. Travis Schultz (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) and Rusty Kjos (Sr., 

Kenmare, N.D.) will provide UND with some depth in the javelin, discus and hammer 

throw events. 

Sprints and Hurdles: UND will rely on both a skilled returnee and a talented recruit in 

the sprint events this season. Mark Barclay (Jr., Grand Forks, N.D.), who took the runner-up 

position at the NCC Indoor Championships in the 500-meter run, will concentrate 

in the 400-meter run this indoor season while newcomer Chris Stoks (Virginia, Minn.) 

will put in time in a variety of events. 

Oak Creek, Wis., native Carl Hanson will lead the way for UND in the hurdles events 

in 2009. The junior took fourth place in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2008 NCC Indoor 

Championships. 

Creighton Schroyer 

Distance: A duo of returners, senior Kyle Downs (Hibbing, Minn.) and cross country 

leader Kyle Rosseau (Jr., Eagan, Minn.), will join talented newcomer Tyler Rose 

(Brainerd, Minn.) in leading the Fighting Sioux in the distance events. Both Downs and Rosseau placed in the top ten in 

the distance events at the NCC indoor and outdoor championships last season, while Rose had a stand-out first cross country 

season in 2008. 

Pole Vault: The Fighting Sioux will look here for continued success from Cavalier, N.D., native, Jay Schroeder. 

Schroeder finished third in the pole vault at the NCC Outdoor Championships and took fourth in the event at the Indoor 

Championships. Joining Schroeder is senior Eric Johnson (Chaska, Minn.), who earned two top ten finishes at the NCC 

championships in 2008. 

Jumps: Carl Hanson, also a Fighting Sioux football player, will look for success in the long jump this season. Hanson 

earned a sixth in the triple jump last season at the NCC championships. Sophomore Ryan Waechter (Park River, N.D.) 

returns to the jumping ranks after taking fourth in both the triple jump and long jump and tying for ninth in the high jump 

at the NCC outdoor tournament. Waechter also took fourth in the triple jump and finished sixth in the long jump at the 

NCC indoor championship. Rounding out the returnees is Nick Wilkens (Jr., Bismarck, N.D.), who will set the pace for 

UND in the high jump this season.

2002 

Mike Backes earned All-America honors in 2002 with a 

fifth-place finish in the triple jump at the NCAA Division II 

Indoor Track and Field Championships. 

The school record-holder in the triple jump with a leap of 

50-10 3/4 at the 2002 NCC indoor meet, Backes was also a 

member of UND’s 4x110-meter hurdle relay team that established 

a school record in 2000. 

In 2002 Backes was named to the Verizon Division II 

Academic All-American Team and the NCC At-Large 

Academic Team (for the second time). He was also a three-time 

member of the NCAA Division II Track Coaches Association 

All-Academic Team. 

A 1998 graduate of Red River High School in Grand Forks, 

Backes was the 1999 UND Rookie of the Year for the entire 

UND Fighting Sioux athletic department. 

RORY 

BEIL 

(1998-91) 

Track & Field 

1991 

Rory Beil finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles at the 

1991 NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships. It is 

the highest finish for a Sioux hurdler in UND history. 

Beil is still tied as the UND Indoor record holder in the 55- 

meter hurdles. During the 1991 outdoor season, Beil captured a 

NCC championship in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. He 

also captained the UND outdoor track team in 1989-90-91. 

Beil was a 1987 graduate of Valley City High School and 

came to UND to major in business marketing.

2002 

Aaron Berndt earned All-America honors in 2002 with a 

fourth-place finish in the 800-meters at the NCAA Division II 

Indoor Track and Field Championships. 

A member of the 2002 North Central Conference At-Large 

Academic Team, Berndt owns five indoor school records and 

two outdoor marks. In indoor competition he set school records 

in the 500, 600, 800 and 1,000-meter races, and was also a 

member of the 2002 3,200-meter relay team that set a school 

record. In outdoor competition Berndt was a member of UND’s 

school-record 3,200-meter relay team and holds the school standard 

in the 800-meter dash. 

Berndt was a 1998 graduate of Red River High School in 

Grand Forks, N.D.

1992 

Jared Bruggeman placed fourth in the 800-meters at the 

1992 NCAA Division II Track and Field Meet. Bruggeman is a 

former record-holder of the UND Indoor 800-meters record and 

was on the 3,200-meter relay team that set the outdoor record of 

7:48.30 in 1993. 

Bruggeman, a 1989 graduate of LaCrescent High School 

(Minn.). Bruggeman is married to coach Maria (Oistad) 

Bruggeman.

Steve Burian was a four-time All-American in the shot put. 

In 1988, Burian finished sixth at the NCAA Division II Meet. He 

placed fourth in 1989, and again in 1990, with a final finish of 

2nd place at the NCAA outdoor championships. Steve finished in 

the top three in discus at all four of his career NCC outdoor 

championships. Was named GTE Cosida All Academic 1st Team 

in 1988-1989 and 1989-1990. Achieved NCC All Academic 

Team 1988-1990, and was a awarded a post graduate scholarship. 

Steve was also awarded the UND Young alumni 

Achievement Award in 2005. 

Steve Burian is CEO & Co-founder of Advanced Engineering & 

Engineering Services (AE2S) in Grand Forks, ND, and has 

served as President of Fighting Sioux Letter winners. Steve is 

currently Co-Chairman of Fighting Sioux Track & Field and 

Cross Country National Alumni Committee. 

Burian was a 1986 graduate and valedictorian of his 

Bismarck Century High School class.

Chris Carbonneau placed 32nd at the 1992 NCAA Division 

II Cross Country Meet to earn All-America honors. Carbonneau 

was also a member of the UND outdoor 4x1600-meter relay that 

holds the school record set in 1992 and he holds the steeplechase 

record set in 1992. 

Carbonneau was a 1988 graduate of Tartan High School in 

St. Paul, Minn.

Division II Outdoor Track and Field Meet in the discus.

Matt Fick finished eighth in the javelin at the 2007 NCAA 

Division II outdoor championships, earning All-American honors 

for the Fighting Sioux. Fick also earned All-American honors 

in 2008 after placing third at the NCAA Division II outdoor

Robert Fransen placed sixth in the high jump at the 1977 

NCAA Division II Track and Field Meet to earn All-America 

honors.

1967 

Arjan Gelling, a 1980 inductee into the University of North 

Dakota Athletic Hall of Fame won an NCAA Division II 

Championship Title in 1969 in the the six-mile run. In 1968, 

Gelling placed second in the 10,000-meters and fifth in the 5,000- 

meters. In 1969, he placed second in the three-mile run along 

with his first place in the six mile run. 

Gelling won the 1967 NCAA Division II Cross Country 

Championships with a time of 19:33.50. He also earned All- 

America honors in 1968 with a fourth-place finish and 1969 with 

a third-place finish in the cross country championships. 

Gelling holds the four-mile North Central Conference course 

record with a time of 19:25.90, set in 1967. He also holds the 

UND Outdoor 10,000-meters record, set in 1968, with a time of 

30:34.00.

Bryan Greenwood earned All-America honors in the 1,600- 

meter relay which placed fourth at the 1987 NCAA Division II 

Championships. 

Greenwood is a UND record holder in the Indoor 1,600- 

meter relay set in 1987, and the Outdoor 400, 800, and 1,600- 

meter relays, all set in 1987. 

Greenwood came to UND after graduating from Cavalier 

High School in 1993 where he was the Class B state champion 

in the 100, 200 and 400-meters.

1998 

Chad Heltemes placed eighth at the 1998 NCAA Division 

II Outdoor Championships in the 1,500-meters to earn All- 

America honors. 

He previously held the UND indoor 1,000-meter record 

(set in 1996) and still holds the indoor mile record (set in 1997) 

and the outdoor record in the 1,500-meters which he set in 1998. 

A three-sport athlete from St. Francis High School in 

Anoka, Minn., Heltemes earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical 

engineering from UND.

Greg Hexum earned All-America honors with his 36thplace 

finish at the 1992 NCAA Cross Country Championships. 

Hexum was a 1989 graduate of Duluth Proctor High School 

who ran cross country and track for UND. He graduated from 

UND with a major in English and a minor in athletic coaching.

Scott Jemtrud finished fifth in the pole vault in 1990 and 

finished third at the 1991 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and

Larry Kennedy placed fifth in the mile run to earn All- 

America honors at the 1975 NCAA Division II Track and Field 

Meet. 

DAVE 

LEVOS 

(1982-86)

Levos graduated from Grand Forks Red River in 1981 and 

graduated from UND with a degree in business administration in 

1986. 

Levos was a three-time NCAA Division II All-America 

weight man in both the discus and shot put in 1984, 1985 and 

1986. A five-time All-American for finishing in the top six at the 

NCAA Division II meet, he also won eight conference track 

titles. He was a four-time NCC shot put champion and triple winner 

in the discus under coach Mike Grandall. 

As a senior, Levos was first in the shot put in all six UND 

indoor meets and was first in the shot put in the 1985 national 

indoor meet. He didn’t compete in the 1985 outdoor season, 

instead competing in 1986. In 1986, Levos’ national title in the 

discus enabled him to compete in the Division I national championships, 

where he finished 10th. 

Levos is married to the former Nancy Wavrin (UND 1986- 

87), and the couple currently resides in Medford, Ore., where 

Levos is a manufacturing manager for Bear Creek, Corp. He and 

Nancy have two sons, Michael and Dylan. 

Levos was inducted into UND’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 

2000.

Matt Litzinger earned two All-America honors while at 

UND. Litzinger was the NCAA Division II outdoor National 

Champion in the javelin in 2008. Litzinger also finished sixth in 

the javelin at the 2007 NCAA Division II outdoor championships. 

Litzinger, a 2004 graduate from Central School in Grand 

Forks, N.D., was a commercial aviation major at UND.

Jim Mallory placed fifth in the 5,000-meters at the 1998 

NCAA Division II Meet to earn All-America honors. Mallory also 

holds current UND records in the indoor 3,000 and 5,000-meter 

races, both set in 1998.

1987 

Tracy Martin earned All-America honors in the 1,600-meter 

relay which placed fourth at the 1987 NCAA Division II Indoor 

Championships. Martin is also a part of the current UND recordholding 

4x400m relay team.

Norm McGee was a three-time NCAA Division II Champion 

in the 100-meter dash. McGee won the titles in 1987, 1988, and 

1989. He placed fourth in the indoor 55-meter dash in 1985, was 

the champion in 1987 and in 1988. In 1985, McGee placed fourth 

in the 100-meters and finished sixth in 200-meters at the NCAA 

Division II Outdoor Track and Field meet. In 1987, McGee won 

the 100-meters and was second in the 200-meters. He repeated 

that feat at the 1988 and 1989 NCAA Meets. 

In all, McGee brought home five first-place finishes from the 

NCAA Division II Track and Field meets, the most in UND history. 

McGee also ran the 1,600-meter relay and earned All- 

America honors at the 1987 NCAA Division II Championships. 

McGee was inducted into UND’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 

2001. 

MARK 

MURDOCK

1995, 1997, 1998 

Mark Murdock placed second in the 1995 NCAA Division 

II Indoor Meet in the shot put. In the outdoor meet, that same 

season he took home a sixth-place finish. Two years later, in 

1997, he placed sixth in the shot put at the NCAA Track and 

Field Meet to earn his third All-America honor. His fourth All- 

America honor came at the NCAA Outdoor Meet in 1998 when 

he placed eighth in the shot put. 

In his senior season at UND, Murdock took first place five 

times in outdoor competition, including the North Central 

Conference Championships where he threw 54-07. 

Murdock was a 1992 graduate of Red River High School in 

Grand Forks.

A four-time All-American, Marc Sondreal posted a thirdplace 

finish in the high jump at the 1997 NCAA Division II 

indoor meet. In 1998 at the NCAA indoor meet, Sondreal 

moved up a position to second place, and then in the 1998 outdoor 

season, he finished seventh in the high jump. 

In Sondreal’s 1998 season, he won six of the eight high 

jump competitions during the outdoor season, including the 

North Central Conference Outdoor Championships where he 

tied a meet record with a leap of 7-01 1/2. 

Sondreal earned his fourth All-American award in 1999, 

finishing eighth in the high jump at the NCAA outdoor meet. 

Sondreal graduated from from UND in the spring of 1999 

with a degree in physical therapy. He is originally from 

Northwood, N.D.

Chuck Torrance earned All-America honors in the 1,600- 

meter relay which placed fourth at the 1987 NCAA Division II 

Championships. Torrance is also a member of the current UND 

record-holding indoor and outdoor 4x400-meter relays set in 

1987. 

Torrance, a 1993 graduate of Grand Forks Central High 

School, majored in zoology while at the University of North 

Dakota.

Tyler Stoltz earned All-America honors by placing fifth in 

the javelin at the 2005 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & 

Field Championships. Stoltz’s fifth-place finish came on a 

throw of 207 feet, 4 inches. 

Stoltz was named UND’s most valuable performer (field 

events) in 2005. 

Stoltz, a 2002 graduate of Valley City (N.D.) High School, 

is majoring in psychology at the University of North Dakota.
