UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME<br />

What Is It?<br />

The <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Trade</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Investment</strong> Promotion Programme (<strong>BSTIP</strong>) is a joint project<br />

financed by Turkey, Greece, the <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Sea</strong> Economic Cooperation (BSEC) organization <strong>and</strong><br />

United Nations Development Programme (<strong>UNDP</strong>) aiming to promote trade <strong>and</strong> investment<br />

in the <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Sea</strong> region. Active since 2008, this initiative implemented by <strong>UNDP</strong> is<br />

headquartered in Athens, Greece <strong>and</strong> is active in the twelve BSEC countries – Albania,<br />

Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey<br />

<strong>and</strong> Ukraine.<br />

What Is Our Mission?<br />

Our mission is to develop <strong>and</strong> promote intra-regional trade <strong>and</strong> investment among the<br />

countries in the <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Sea</strong> region. <strong>BSTIP</strong> strives toward poverty reduction <strong>and</strong> increased<br />

economic opportunity through private sector development.<br />

How Does It Work?<br />

<strong>BSTIP</strong>’s focus is on building the capacity of enterprises <strong>and</strong> associations <strong>and</strong> promoting<br />

business-to-business contact in the region. We accomplish this through our<br />

programmatic activities which include:<br />

Business to business (B2B) networking <strong>and</strong> matchmaking events<br />

Direct brokering <strong>and</strong> matchmaking between companies<br />

Targeted trade <strong>and</strong> investment missions<br />

Support to regional conferences, forums, organizations <strong>and</strong> networks focused on<br />

<strong>Black</strong> <strong>Sea</strong> regional economic development<br />

Supporting Sustainable Business<br />

<strong>BSTIP</strong> is committed to promoting sustainable business, a major programmatic focus of<br />

<strong>UNDP</strong>, throughout the <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Sea</strong> region. The programme focuses on three key areas.<br />

Climate Resiliency: <strong>BSTIP</strong> contributes to climate resiliency around the <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Sea</strong> through<br />

climate change mainstreaming <strong>and</strong> green business development activities in the <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Sea</strong><br />

region through grants from the Austria <strong>and</strong> the BSEC Project Development Fund.<br />

Gender <strong>and</strong> Youth Inclusion: <strong>BSTIP</strong> organizes specific programmes related to women <strong>and</strong><br />

youth entrepreneurship as well as emphasizing gender participation in its programmatic<br />

activities.<br />

Global Compact: <strong>BSTIP</strong> encourages programme participants to join the UN Global Compact,<br />

which is an initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations <strong>and</strong><br />

strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour,<br />

environment <strong>and</strong> anti-corruption.<br />
