Selenium deficency <strong>in</strong> animals, but <strong>with</strong> major implication <strong>in</strong> humans, required to carry out<br />

experiments regard<strong>in</strong>g Se enrichment of some fodder and food sourses. The experiments<br />

conducted <strong>in</strong>to green house were followed <strong>the</strong> selenium enrichment of alfalfa, by <strong>the</strong><br />

adm<strong>in</strong>istration of selenium as potassium selenite solution (K 2 SeO 3 ) <strong>in</strong>to soil, on seed and<br />

on plant. Adm<strong>in</strong>istration of selenium <strong>in</strong> soil, <strong>with</strong> doses <strong>from</strong> 1 to 10 mg / kg has<br />

contributed to <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>the</strong> Se content of alfalfa plants up to 6.5 times. Foliar fertilization<br />

<strong>with</strong> solutions conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g 4 mg Se <strong>in</strong> a volume of 100 ml water, <strong>in</strong>creased <strong>the</strong> selenium<br />

content of <strong>the</strong> plant up to 14 times, and <strong>the</strong> application of selenium on seed by spray<strong>in</strong>g it<br />

<strong>with</strong> solutions that conta<strong>in</strong>ed between 1 and 5 mg Se / l helped to <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>the</strong> amount of<br />

selenium <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> plant up to 11 times. The experiments carried out on <strong>the</strong> field have<br />

revealed a tendency to <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>the</strong> accumulation of selenium <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> wheat gra<strong>in</strong>, <strong>with</strong> up<br />

to 10% as a result of spray<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> plants on 9-10 state accord<strong>in</strong>g to Feeks scale <strong>with</strong> a<br />

solution conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g 1 g sodium selenite (Na 2 SeO 3 ) per hectare. The experimental data<br />

obta<strong>in</strong>ed show <strong>the</strong> necessity and possibility of bio-fortification <strong>with</strong> Se of <strong>the</strong> plants used<br />

as fodder and vegetable orig<strong>in</strong> foods.
