Kansas 114-35 .765 BLOCK PARTY With the added shot altering abilities of freshman Perry Stevenson and the new found rejection skills of Randolph Morris, Kentucky has recorded 105 blocked shots this season. That’s in comparison to 106 all of last season and 92 in the 2005 season when the team finished with the 13th most blocked shots in the program’s 104 year history. DANDY DECEMBER The Wildcats posted a 6-1 (.857) record in the month of December including wins over long time rivals Indiana and Louisville. The Wildcats outscored their opponents by an average of 8.9 (70.9-62.0) points per game and outrebounded their opponents 40.3-36.1. Kentucky has an all-time mark of 454-108 (.808) in the month of December. So far, the Wildcats have posted a 5-1 mark in January. He recorded his fourth double-double of the season and the sixth of his career. Morris' 25 points tied a career high for the 6- 11 junior and recorded a 20 point-10 rebound game for the second time this season. He is the first Wildcat to have two 20-10 games in the same season since Tayshaun Prince in 2001-02. Morris has scored in double figures in every game but one this season. MEEKS NAMED SEC FROSH OF THE WEEK Freshman guard Jodie Meeks was named the SEC Freshman of the Week (12/18) based on his performance against Louisville (12/16). The 6-5 Norcross, Ga. native recorded a career and game high 18 points in helping lead the Wildcats to a 61-49 win over the Cardinals in Freedom Hall. Meeks nailed four three pointers, including a three-pointer at the 10:20 mark of the second half that put Kentucky on top to stay. He hit 4-of-5 from the free throw line including three in a row when he was fouled in the act of shooting a three-pointer. His three free throws extended the Kentucky lead to eight points with 6:36 remaining. NAISMITH CANDIDATE Junior center Randolph Morris added ‘Naismith candidate’ to his list of pre-season honors as he was listed on the Top 50 candidates for the 2007 Naismith award, the most prestigious national award presented annually to the men’s and women’s players of the year. The Top 50 list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, comprised of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country. The board based its pre-season criteria on player performances from last season and expectations for the 2006-07 season. NAISMITH CANDIDATES SQUARE OFF It was a contest inside a contest when the Wildcats traveled to Chapel Hill to take on the North Carolina Tarheels. Kentucky Naismith candidate Randolph Morris vs. UNC Naismith candidate Tyler Hansbrough. When the dust settled, Morris got the better of the individual battle posting 23 points, seven rebounds and three assists to Hansbrough’s seven points and three rebounds. CATS IN THE RANKINGS Kentucky is ranked in the Coaches’ Top 25 for the first time in nine weeks. Kentucky is also receiving votes in the AP Top 25. The Wildcats were picked in the top 25 of several other preseason publications. Blue Ribbon magazine has Kentucky as high as 17th, while Lindy’s tabbed UK has the 37th best team in the nation. Other organizations rank Kentucky 21st (The Sporting News and Dick Vitale), 22nd (CSTV.com and Street & Smith’s) and 27th (ESPN.com Summer Sizzling 50). CARTER UNDERGOES SHOULDER SURGERY Sophomore center Jared Carter underwent surgery on Friday, Dec. 22 to repair a dislocated right shoulder. Carter originally hurt his shoulder Nov. 11 during practice. After sitting out UK’s first five games, he played in three contests before re-injuring the shoulder in practice Dec. 7. The surgery was performed by Dr. Scott Mair at the UK Chandler Hospital. Carter is expected to return to activity in six months. UK will seek a medical redshirt for the Georgetown, Ky. native.

CATS ROCK AT RUPP ARENA • UK has won 56 of its last 68 home games. The Cats are 10-1 at home this season and are 397-49 (.890) all-time in Rupp. • UK has won 17 national attendance titles in the building, including 10 of the last 11. • The Rupp Arena attendance record of 24,459 was set Feb. 4, 2003, against Florida. • The Wildcats have posted a remarkable 226-33 (.873) record in regular-season SEC games played in Rupp. Tubby Smith is 65-14 (.823) in home league games at UK. PACKED HOUSE Kentucky is known for its loyal fans and this year is no different. After 11 home games this season, the Wildcats once again lead the Southeastern Conference in attendance, averaging 23,125 fans at historic Rupp Arena. That’s over 3,800 more fans than the second place team. PRESEASON HONORS Randolph Morris received the bulk of the Wildcat preseason accolades this year. In the SEC Preseason coaches’ vote, Morris was voted secondteam All-SEC. He was rated as the 11th-best center nationally by The Sporting News as well as being named second-team preseason All-SEC by TSN. CBSSportsline.com rated Morris the 14th best center in the country, while he checked in at 23rd in Lindy’s preseason ratings. Athlon Sports selected Morris third-team preseason All-SEC. The Sporting News also listed UK freshmen Perry Stevenson and Jodie Meeks among the nation’s Top Impact newcomers. Street & Smith’s list Meeks, Stevenson and Derrick Jasper among the nation’s Top 100 Freshmen. SEC PREDICTIONS Several publications and organizations have rated the Wildcats as one of the top teams in the SEC. Kentucky was selected to finish second in the SEC East Division behind defending national champion Florida by the media members that attended SEC Media Days in Birmingham. UK was tabbed for a second place finish in the East by Athlon’s, The Sporting News, Street & Smith’s, and Blue Ribbon while Lindy’s picked the Cats third behind Florida and Tennessee. NATIONAL EXPOSURE The Kentucky Wildcats played on a national television network 19 times during the 2005-06 regular season. This season all of Kentucky’s games are once again scheduled for live television of which 12 are slated for national broadcasts. All three of Kentucky’s games in the EA Sports Maui Invitational were televised on ESPN’s family of networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU) as was UK’s games at South Carolina (1/16). UK will also appear on the “Total Sports Network” vs. Florida (2/10), at Tennessee (2/13) and vs. LSU (2/20). THREE MANIA UK has the nation’s third-longest active streak of consecutive games with a made three-pointer. UK has hit a three-pointer in 629 consecutive games, which trails only UNLV and Vanderbilt. The Wildcats' last game without a three-pointer came 18 seasons ago against Seton Hall on Nov. 26, 1988, a “three-point” loss in the Great Alaska Shootout. As of January 22, 2007, UNLV and Vanderbilt have hit a three-pointer in every game since the three-point rule was adopted to start the 1986-87 season. The Rebels streak is 651 games, while Vanderbilt’s streak is 649 games. BIG BLUE MANIA KEIGHTLEY RECORDS 1,400TH GAME AT UK Not to be lost in the hype of the opening game of the 2006-07 season was equipment manager Bill Keightley’s 1,400th game with the Wildcats. Keightley is in his 46th season as equipment manager of the UK basketball team. The beloved “Mr. Wildcat” began assisting in the equipment room during the 1961-62 season and since then, UK has played 1,418 games, owning a 1,088-330 (.767) record. Kentucky, which has fielded 104 teams, has played 2,541 games, meaning Keightley has played a role in 55.8% of the games. The Lawrenceburg, Ky., native, who has a jersey retired in the rafters of Rupp Arena, has worked under five different head coaches at UK - - Rupp, Hall, Sutton, Pitino and Smith. The current Cats have a modern nickname for the 80- year-old Keightley -- “Smooth.” “SUPER FAN” IN 54TH SEASON UK fan Bob Wiggins, 78, continues his amazing streak of following the basketball Cats. The 2006-07 season is his 54th watching Kentucky play in person and through his own record-keeping, he has attended 1,369 UK games. His home-court streak spans 45 years and 656 games.
