UK-GEORGIA SERIES HISTORY<br />

• This is the 128th meeting between the<br />

Wildcats and the Bulldogs.<br />

• <strong>Kentucky</strong> is 106-21 all-time against Georgia.<br />

• UK has won five in a row against Georgia,<br />

including last year’s series sweep (69-55 in<br />

Athens; 68-61 in Lexington)<br />

• <strong>Kentucky</strong> owns the series’ longest winning<br />

streak at 20 consecutive victories from 1950-<br />

1966.<br />

• The Wildcats are 36-14 all-time against<br />

Georgia in Athens and 29-11 against the Bulldogs<br />

in Stegeman Coliseum. UK is 29-13 all-time in<br />

Georgia’s home arena, having lost two games<br />

(107-83 to Western <strong>Kentucky</strong>; 91-74 to<br />

Marquette) in the 1971 NCAA Tournament.<br />

• Tubby Smith is <strong>15</strong>-4 against his former school,<br />

with all games being played since he came to<br />

<strong>Kentucky</strong>.<br />

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS<br />

• Located in Athens, Ga. (378 miles south <strong>of</strong><br />

Lexington), Georgia is in the <strong>SEC</strong>’s East division.<br />

• Georgia enters Wednesday’s game with a 3-2<br />

record in league play. The Bulldogs come into the<br />

game <strong>of</strong>f a heartbreaking loss at No. 10 Alabama<br />

on Saturday, where they never trailed until a<br />

buzzer-beating shot by Ronald Steele sank the<br />

Bulldogs 78-76.<br />

• Prior to the Alabama game, the Bulldogs had<br />

won three league games in a row (vs. USC, vs.<br />

Vanderbilt, at Arkansas). They are also one <strong>of</strong><br />

only four teams (<strong>Kentucky</strong>, Florida, Vanderbilt)<br />

to have a league road win, doing so at Arkansas.<br />

• The Bulldogs are under the direction <strong>of</strong> fifthyear<br />

head coach George Felton. Felton has guided<br />

Georgia to a 50-55 record. He is <strong>15</strong>0-109 in nine<br />

years as a head coach, having served as the head<br />

man at Western <strong>Kentucky</strong> for five years before<br />

going to Athens. Felton is 3-5 against UK.<br />

PEACH STATE SUCCESS<br />

Over the years, the Wildcats have met with<br />

success when it comes to schools from the Peach<br />

State. <strong>Kentucky</strong> possesses a 168-37 (.820) record<br />

against teams from the state <strong>of</strong> Georgia. The bulk<br />

<strong>of</strong> UK’s games against Georgia based teams have<br />

come against <strong>SEC</strong> rival Georgia (106-21).<br />

The Wildcats also enjoy a 99-43 record when<br />

playing in the state <strong>of</strong> Georgia.<br />

WHO AM I?<br />

Bespectacled, husky-voiced and heavily built<br />

(though he has lost weight in recent years), this<br />

Georgia attendee has been one <strong>of</strong> Hollywood's<br />

busiest and most recognizable character actors<br />

since the early-1990s. He was an undergraduate at<br />

the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Georgia where a pr<strong>of</strong>essor once<br />

told him that if he loved the theatre, he should<br />

stay big. He left the college as an honor student<br />

but one credit shy <strong>of</strong> a degree to pursue his career<br />

at the Barter Theatre in Virginia. He is best<br />

known for his role as Newman, the self-serving<br />

postman on the hit TV show Seinfeld.<br />

UK-GEORGIA CONNECTIONS<br />

• <strong>Kentucky</strong> coach Tubby Smith first joined the<br />

<strong>SEC</strong> as a head coach in Athens, leading the<br />

Georgia Bulldogs from 1996-1997. Smith totaled<br />

a 45-19 record while in Athens, guiding the<br />

Bulldogs to two NCAA Tournament appearances,<br />

including a run to the 1996 Sweet 16.<br />

• <strong>Kentucky</strong> junior Randolph Morris and freshman<br />

Jodie Meeks hail from the Peach State.<br />

Morris (Atlanta) is making his fourth appearance<br />

in his home state where he has posted a 4-1<br />

record. Meeks (Norcross) is returning to Georgia<br />

for the first time.<br />

• Georgia head coach George Felton served as<br />

the head coach at Western <strong>Kentucky</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

during the 1999-03 seasons. Felton posted a 100-<br />

54 record as the head coach <strong>of</strong> the Hilltoppers.<br />

• UGA associate head coach Pete Herrmann was<br />

an assistant under Felton at Western <strong>Kentucky</strong>.<br />

• Bulldog freshman Albert Jackson is from<br />

Earlington, Ky. Prior to transferring to Oak Hill<br />

Academy for his senior season, Jackson was one <strong>of</strong><br />

the top big men in <strong>Kentucky</strong>, playing at Hopkins<br />

Central H.S. in Madisonville. Jackson also played<br />

football at Hopkins Central.<br />

CATS COME AND GO IN RANKINGS<br />

After an eight-week hiatus <strong>Kentucky</strong> returned<br />

to the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll this week<br />

at No. <strong>25</strong>, but dropped out <strong>of</strong> the AP Top <strong>25</strong>. The<br />

Wildcats had entered the AP rankings at No. <strong>25</strong><br />

last week.<br />

The Cats began the season ranked 22nd and<br />

rose as high as No. 20 before losing twice in Maui<br />

to ranked foes.<br />

CATS LEAD <strong>SEC</strong> IN DEFENSE<br />

Through five conference games, UK leads the<br />

<strong>SEC</strong> in scoring defense (59.2), holding four <strong>of</strong> its<br />

five opponents to 60 or fewer points. <strong>Kentucky</strong><br />

also tops the league in field goal percentage<br />

defense (.360).<br />

The Wildcats also lead the league (and are sixth<br />

nationally) in overall field goal percentage defense<br />

at .372, which is the lowest opponent field goal<br />

percentage against UK since the 1961-62 Cats<br />

held foes to just .368.<br />

<strong>SEC</strong> DOMINATION<br />

Since the <strong>SEC</strong>’s inception in 1932-33, the<br />

Wildcats have been the most dominant team in<br />

the league, recording an 837-222 mark (.790).<br />

Only one other team has won more than 680 regular-season<br />

<strong>SEC</strong> games (Alabama) and no other<br />

team has a better winning percentage. UK has<br />

averaged 11.4 wins and 3.1 losses per season in 73<br />

seasons in the <strong>SEC</strong>.<br />

• The Wildcats have won 43 <strong>SEC</strong> titles and <strong>25</strong><br />

<strong>SEC</strong> Tournament Championships, more than the<br />

other 11 teams combined.<br />

• <strong>Kentucky</strong> has won 10 <strong>of</strong> the last <strong>15</strong> <strong>SEC</strong><br />

Tournament titles.<br />

• UK has won 11 <strong>SEC</strong> East titles in the <strong>15</strong> seasons<br />

since the league expanded.<br />

• Tubby Smith is in his 12th season in the <strong>SEC</strong><br />
