the course of the last six years in their home
debut.
IMPRESSIVE INDIVIDUAL DEBUTS
• Not to be lost in the Kentucky’s home-opening
success was the play of several Wildcats.
Four different Cats scored a goal against
Evansville, the first time that’s happened since
five Wildcats scored against Eastern Kentucky
on Sept. 1, 2006.
Included in those goal scorers were sophomore
Cindy Abbott and freshman Alicia Browning.
Both scored their first goal on the collegiate
level.
In addition, Laura Baker allowed the first goal
of her collegiate career, snapping her 211
minute scoreless streak.
CATS PICKED FIFTH
• In the preseason vote of Southeastern Conference
head coaches, Kentucky was picked to
finish fifth in the Eastern division. However,
the Wildcats did receive a vote to win the
league from one coach. Florida, Tennessee,
Vanderbilt and Georgia were picked to finish
ahead of the Cats in the East. Auburn was
picked to win the Western division, followed
by Ole Miss, LSU, Arkansas, Alabama and
Mississippi State respectively.
CAT FACTS
All Heart
• Most students spend their summers going to
the beach or vacationing somewhere else. Not
Kelsey Fenix, she was volunteering at St.
Joseph Hospital in the surgery unit, when one
day she asked if she could get into any surgeries
and they asked if she was interested in
watching heart surgery?!?! In her words, “It
was freaking awesome!!”
Running Woman
• There was no chance sophomore Cindy Abbott
was going to slack off in her fitness. She
passed her time over the summer training for
and running in an 18-mile trail race.
Reality Winner
• In an informal survey, junior Kate Hughes was
selected as the player most likely to star in a
Reality Show. Hughes’ PR campaign may have
already begun as she is featured on UK’s SEE
BLUE billboard in her hometown of Brentwood,
Tenn. on Clinton County Hwy 127
and Clinton County Hwy 90..
Athletes in Action
• Nathalie Bolder, Kelsey Fenix and Kristin
Kover didn’t spend their summer laying
around. Instead they traveled to Colorado
where they participated in the Athletes in Action
Ultimate Training Camp.
Family of Wildcats
• Kate Rowlands isn’t the only Kentucky Wildcat
in her family. Her sister Annie signed with
the Wildcats to play softball and will make her
debut this spring.
Hidden Talents
• The Wildcats have proven their abilities on the
field, however there are several hobbies the
Cats excel at off the field including:
Becky Davenport: speaks fluent Spanish
Sarah Gaunt: is a BMX racer
Sydney Hiance: writes her own music
Nicola Holdsworth: is good with brain teasers
Laura Novikoff: plays the guitar
Ashley Stack: is a skimboarder
