A: No, that was about two years before I first ran for election. I first ran
in 1956, we were married in 1955--a year be£ ore, I guess.
Q: Why did you decide to get married in December? Usually it's a June wedding
if the . . .
A: I don't really know except that we thought that we were ready and we did.
Q: Yes. Let's see, she went to high school here in Chicago. Did she go to
college?
A: She went to a business school.
Q: Here in Chicago itself.
A: Chicago, yes.
9: Yes. Where did you live when you were first married?
A: At 516 ?&st 62nd Street.
Q: What type of quarters was that? Apartment?
'A: An apa.rtment, yes.
Q: Can you descrfbe what the apartment was like?
A: Well, it was a four-room apartment in a twelve-flat huilding. It was a
nice, neat apartment. We did some substantial wark these to make it very
comfortable.
Q: And how long did you live there?
A: Lived there until 1957 when we moved to a larger place, a six-room apartment,
at 5836 Michigan Avenue. We lived there until 1959, when we built: a
place, a two-flat condominium, with another couple and that's where we still
live,
9: So you've had three homes, then?
A: Three homes, that's correct.
Q: What did she think about your going into the legislature a year after , . .
A: She was very interested in my doing what I thought I might want to do. She
was very supportive.
Q: What was she doing when you first knew her? What type of wark?
A: She worked at Michael Reese Hospital in the serum center.
