On <strong>the</strong> human voice test, <strong>the</strong><br />
Vandersteen sounded mostly plausible.<br />

and <strong>the</strong> “S” sounds too prominent.<br />
On <strong>the</strong> two recordings — <strong>the</strong><br />
Beethoven and <strong>the</strong> Jennifer Warnes —<br />
<strong>the</strong> sound was thinner than it had been<br />
with <strong>the</strong> Castle, but <strong>the</strong> top end pleased<br />
both Reine and Albert. Both recordings<br />
remained somewhat bright and grainy,<br />
but <strong>the</strong> dynamics and <strong>the</strong> emotion came<br />
through reasonably well. Even Gerard,<br />
who had not liked <strong>the</strong> speaker on <strong>the</strong><br />
voice test, expressed surprise.<br />
We moved <strong>the</strong> VCC-1 to our Kappa<br />
system, and listened to <strong>the</strong> pink noise<br />
as our processor was going through <strong>the</strong><br />
auto-alignment. The lack of bottom-end<br />
solidity was evident, of course. But how<br />
would it do on actual films?<br />

We must emphasize again that we<br />
had run <strong>the</strong> speaker full range, without<br />
help from <strong>the</strong> subwoofer. That’s not<br />
how we would run it if it were ours, of<br />
course. This speaker could work well in<br />
a smaller room, with everything below<br />
100 Hz sent to <strong>the</strong> sub.<br />
Oh yes…and with proper binding<br />
posts installed. We’re surprised barrier<br />
strips are even available.<br />
