UDFCD BMP MONITORING SITES Open Bed Sand Filter Updates At the end of the first storm season, the sand filter was not draining properly. In the spring of 2008 the water in the sand filter was pumped out and the top layer of sand was scraped off. By July of 2008 the sand filter was again not draining. The pumping and scraping process was repeated. In the spring of 2008 the sharp-crested weir was replaced with a Cipoletti weir and lowered to the correct height. In 2008, a Cipoletti weir was added to the catch basin at the opening of the pipe that conveys flows captured in the catch basin to the sand filter. The intent of the weir is to allow a means to measure the amount of flow into the sand filter. A pressure transducer was also placed in the catch basin to measure the depth of flow over the weir.
