e) A written or oral safety test must be taken and<br />

passed by each <strong>student</strong> prior to working in any<br />

shop.<br />

f) Failure to follow safety instructions or safety rules<br />

may result in exclusion from the shop or technical<br />

program.<br />

16.2 Student Insurance<br />

Student accident insurance is available to every <strong>student</strong><br />

through the C.W. Bollinger Company. This is available in<br />

September through the Office of the School Nurse.<br />

16.3 Technical Certificate<br />

Students are eligible to receive a <strong>Union</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Vocational</strong>-<br />

Technical Schools Certificate by:<br />

1. Successfully completing the prescribed technical<br />

curriculum with a passing grade (65 or higher).<br />

2. Amassing the required hours as mandated by NJ<br />

State Licensure.<br />

3. Adherence to the attendance policy.<br />

4. Scoring at or above the national or state average on<br />

an occupational competency test in the chosen major.<br />

16.4 Evaluation of Individual Student<br />

Performance in Technical Shop Classes<br />

Teachers will distribute the grading criteria at the beginning of<br />

each school year. The minimum requirements per marking<br />

period are as follows:<br />

50% Student Participation-Hands-On Performance<br />

30% Written Exams<br />

10% Oral Exams<br />

10% Home Work/Assigned Activities<br />

Final course grades for vocational-Technical classes are<br />

determined as follows:<br />

20% Marking Period 1<br />

20% Marking Period 2<br />

10% Mid-Term Exam<br />

20% Marking Period 3<br />

20% Marking Period 4<br />

10% Final Exam<br />

16.5 Live Work Processing<br />

Live work is approved by the Principal, and in collaboration with<br />

the teacher, will be assigned as shop projects to <strong>student</strong>s.<br />

Teachers or <strong>student</strong>s will not collect money and all transactions<br />

will take place in the Principal’s Office. A customer should<br />

make an appointment with the teacher to discuss live work<br />

services. ‘The Principal will reserve the right to reject projects<br />

which so no serve the educational needs of the <strong>student</strong>s. <strong>Union</strong>
