to ensure good attendance. The chief school administrator<br />
will recognize exemplary <strong>student</strong> attendance.<br />
The Period 1-2 teacher will take daily attendance. The<br />
attendance/tardy data will be entered into the computerized<br />
attendance register. After period 1-2, all other teachers will<br />
take meeting attendance and register data into the<br />
computerized attendance register.<br />
Parents/guardians are responsible for notifying the school<br />
before 8:00AM regarding an absence and for informing the<br />
school of the reason for the absence. The frequent absence<br />
of <strong>student</strong>s from classroom learning experiences disrupts the<br />
continuity of the instructional process and limits the ability of<br />
<strong>student</strong>s to complete the prescribed curriculum requirements.<br />
A <strong>student</strong> must be in attendance for 162 or more school days in<br />
order to be considered to have completed the instructional<br />
program requirements of the course. If the minimum <strong>student</strong><br />
attendance is not achieved, the <strong>student</strong> may not receive<br />
course credit.<br />
A waiver of these attendance requirements may be granted for<br />
good cause by the Principal upon a recommendation from the<br />
Attendance Review Committee (ARC), appointed by the<br />
Principal, consisting of a guidance counselor, two classroom<br />
teachers and the school nurse, when appropriate.<br />
In recommending the granting of a waiver of this attendance<br />
requirement, the Attendance Review Committee shall<br />
consider the nature and causes of all absences.<br />
Documentation of the nature and causes of all absences shall<br />
be the responsibility of the <strong>student</strong> and the parent/guardian.<br />
4.2 Administrative Procedures<br />
Attendance<br />
Every <strong>student</strong> shall attend school and each class on all days<br />
approved by the Board of Education in the official calendar.<br />
Students must attend school a minimum of 162 days set by the<br />
official calendar.<br />
Recording of Absences<br />
All absences for all reasons, inclusive of a full day and<br />
individual class absences are recorded and charged toward a<br />
<strong>student</strong>’s attendance record. Absences occasioned by religious<br />
activities are recorded but are not charged toward a <strong>student</strong>’s<br />
attendance record.<br />
4.3 Absences<br />
Parents/guardians are responsible for notifying the school<br />
before 8:00AM regarding an absence and for informing the<br />
school of the reason for the absence. In addition to the phone<br />
call, a note from the parent/guardian explaining each absence<br />
is required to be given to the front office secretary on the day<br />
the <strong>student</strong> returns to school. Absences will be dealt with in
