Also, the radial stress distribution in coupled system is plotted in Fig.2-b. The diffusion induced the<br />

tensile stress in the system, which in turn affects the diffusion process.<br />

Reaction is coupled to mechanics through misfit (reaction) strain, change in properties <strong>and</strong> pressuredependence<br />

of reaction kinetics. Expression for misfit strain is determined. Misfit strain creates large<br />

stresses, which lead to expansion of the reaction zone. Various diffusion <strong>and</strong> oxidation scenarios are<br />

investigated.<br />
