8:05 AM Vacuum and SF6 Circuit Breakers, Shawn Unthank of Midwest Technical Sales, Louisburg, KS,
representing HVB AE Power Systems
Shawn will review the technology and strengths/limitations for both vacuum and SF6 circuit breakers and
will discuss anticipated changes in regulations affecting use of SF6 gas.
10:00 AM Substation Battery and Charger Design and Sizing, Dave Rehage of Hubill, Inc., Davenport, IA,
representing C&D Technologies, Inc.
Dave will review substation battery and charger design, sizing criteria, handling, and maintenance.
12:00 PM Lunch
1:00 PM Transformer Diagnostic Evaluations and Oil and Gas Analysis, Fredi Jakob of Weidmann
Diagnostic Solutions, Sacramento, CA
Fredi will present the history and theoretical basis for Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA), laboratory procedures,
data interpretation, and case studies. He will provide an update of on-line DGA and an update on
application of DGA to LTC including discussion of IEEE C57.139, a new guide for LTC DGA.
4:30 PM Reception for Attendees and Presenters
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 17, 2010
8:00 AM Load Tap Changer Controls and Smart Grid Applications, Application Engineers from Beckwith
Electric Co., Largo, FL
Application engineers will discuss LTC transformer control practices associated with SMART GRID (SG)
Integrated Volt/Var/kW Management functions. The implementation of SG technology and the resultant
changes in power systems may cause increased or even excessive LTC duties and therefore increased
transformer winding stresses. Attention will also be drawn to common paralleling commissioning practices
in the field that can create conditions for LTC “hunting.”
10:00 AM Load Tap Changer Maintenance Training, Mike Daugherty of HVS/Waukesha Training, Dallas, TX
Mike will provide practical maintenance instruction on vacuum, arcing, and resistive LTCs.
12:00 PM Lunch
1:00 PM Load Tap Changer Maintenance Training, Mike Daugherty of HVS/Waukesha Training, Dallas, TX
