SECTION 4 - UNDERPINNING
4.1 OVERVIEW
Referto section O, General rules, which shall be read in conjunction with this section.
4.2 PREAMBLES
4.2.1
Particulars shall be given of:
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
(e)
The length of wall to be underpinned;
The maximum depth of excavation below existing ground level, or reduced
level if applicable;
The lengths and sequence of work to be carried out in one operation;
Any exceptional conditions relating to the works;
Any samples or tests required, both of the materials and the finished work.
4.3 GENERAL PRINCIPLES
4.3.1
All the work directly related to Underpinning shall be scheduled in accordance with
the various sections of this Standard Method of Measurement unless otherwise
stated.
4.3.2
The description shall give particulars of the disposal of excavated material.
4.4 MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE
4.4.1
The sections to be underpinned shall be measured separately stating the length and
height of the underpinning and the size, number and sequence of the stages in which
the underpinning is to be executed.
4.4.2
The width of excavation shall be taken from the face of the wall or footing to be
underpinned whichever is the greater and in accordance with:
