SECTION 4 - UNDERPINNING<br />
4.1 OVERVIEW<br />
Referto section O, General rules, which shall be read in conjunction with this section.<br />
4.2 PREAMBLES<br />
4.2.1<br />
Particulars shall be given of:<br />
(a)<br />
(b)<br />
(c)<br />
(d)<br />
(e)<br />
The length of wall to be underpinned;<br />
The maximum depth of excavation below existing ground level, or reduced<br />
level if applicable;<br />
The lengths and sequence of work to be carried out in one operation;<br />
Any exceptional conditions relating to the works;<br />
Any samples or tests required, both of the materials and the finished work.<br />
4.3 GENERAL PRINCIPLES<br />
4.3.1<br />
All the work directly related to Underpinning shall be scheduled in accordance with<br />
the various sections of this Standard Method of Measurement unless otherwise<br />
stated.<br />
4.3.2<br />
The description shall give particulars of the disposal of excavated material.<br />
4.4 MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE<br />
4.4.1<br />
The sections to be underpinned shall be measured separately stating the length and<br />
height of the underpinning and the size, number and sequence of the stages in which<br />
the underpinning is to be executed.<br />
4.4.2<br />
The width of excavation shall be taken from the face of the wall or footing to be<br />
underpinned whichever is the greater and in accordance with:<br />
Depth of trench<br />

Not exceeding 1.5<br />
Exceeding 1.5 but not exceeding 3.0<br />
Exceeding 3.0<br />
Width to be taken<br />
