3.4.6 Rock<br />

3.4.6.1<br />

Where solid rock is likely to be encountered in the course of excavation it shall be<br />

measured as extra value.<br />

3.4.6.2<br />

Separate items shall be measured for excavating rock in:<br />

(a)<br />

(b)<br />

(c)<br />

3.4.7 Old sites<br />

Bulk excavation;<br />

Basement excavation;<br />

Trench excavation.<br />

3.4.7.1<br />

Breaking upand removal of sutfaceconcrete or other hard substances not exceeding<br />

150 mm in thickness shall be measured in square metres, and the thickness stated.<br />

3.4.7.2<br />

Breaking up and removal of brickwork, concrete or other hard substances, other than<br />

surface materials, met with in excavation shall be measured in cubic metres as extra<br />

value, and sectional size and length stated.<br />

3.4.8 Backfill<br />

Backfill shall be described and measured in accordance with 3.3.<br />

3.4.9 Disposal<br />

3.4.9.1<br />

The disposal of excavated material shall be described and measured in accordance<br />

with 3.3.<br />

3.4.9.2<br />

If the excavated material is to be deposited on the site or at a specified off-site<br />

location the distance to be carted shall be stated.<br />

3.4.1 O Filling<br />

3.4.10.1<br />

Filling shall be described by reference to type of material, compaction etc. and be<br />

measured as follows:<br />

(a)<br />

(b)<br />

Up to 300 mm thickness - square metres (state thickness);<br />

Over 300 mm thickness - cubic metres.<br />

3.4.1 0.2<br />

Grading and blinding of the surface of the filling shall be measured in square metres.<br />

3.4.1 0.3<br />

Where proof rolling or the like of the subgrade is specified an item shall be measured.<br />
