SECTION 3 - EXCAVATION<br />
3.1 OVERVIEW<br />
3.1.1<br />
Referto section O, General rules, which shall be read in conjunction with this section.<br />
3.1.2<br />
Theterm"excavation"shall bedeemedtoincludeany methodof excavationthat may<br />
be required and getting out excavated materials by any means necessary.<br />
3.2 PREAMBLES<br />
3.2.1<br />
Particulars shall be given of:<br />
(a)<br />
(b)<br />
(c)<br />
(d)<br />
(e)<br />
Exceptional conditions relating to the works;<br />
Reference to records of test bores;<br />
Ground conditions;<br />
Existing services;<br />
Any other available information.<br />
3.2.2 Rates to include<br />
(a)<br />
(b)<br />
(c)<br />
Excavation in any material encountered other than solid rock:<br />
Trimming sides and forming batters;<br />
Levelling off, consolidating bottoms and any staging required.<br />
3.3 GENERAL PRINCIPLES<br />
3.3.1<br />
Excavation, filling, disposal, hardfill and the like shall, unless otherwise required, be<br />
scheduled in cubic metres.<br />
3.3.2<br />
All measurement shall be net, that is, no allowance shall be made for either bulking<br />
or consolidation. The class of material shall be described by the appropriate name<br />
where known.<br />
3.3.3<br />
The description shall give particulars of the disposal of excavated material. Where<br />
excavation is cut to fill this shall be stated.<br />
3.3.4<br />
The description shall give particulars for keeping excavations and building sitesfree<br />
from storm and percolating waters by pumping or otherwise. When the excavations<br />
extend below the normal water level, the fact shall be stated and, where known, the<br />
water level given. Where springs or running water are likely to be encountered, an<br />
item shall be included for pumping.<br />
