<strong>COMMENCEMENT</strong> SCHOLARSHIPS and AWARDS<br />

A list of local scholarships and awards available to B.C.I. graduates<br />

who are leaving school in February or June, 2011.<br />

THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE AWARDS WILL BE OFFERED THIS YEAR<br />

AND ALL AMOUNTS MAY VARY FROM THOSE LISTED.<br />

INSTRUCTIONS:<br />

Read the booklet carefully and select those awards for which you believe you meet the selection<br />

criteria. List these awards on the General Application in the appropriate space.<br />

Students must complete a General Application form for awards listed in Sections 1 and 2 of<br />

this booklet. In addition, Special Applications are required for the awards listed in Section 1.<br />

All applications are due to Student Services by Tuesday, April 19, 2011.<br />

Students will receive notification of awards which they have won<br />

in the fall along with their Commencement invitation.<br />

Commencement exercises will be held on Friday, October 07, 2011.


SECTION 1: AWARDS REQUIRING SPECIAL APPLICATIONS<br />

OBTAIN SPECIAL APPLICATIONS FROM STUDENT SERVICES AND SUBMIT WITH THE<br />

GENERAL APPLICATION.<br />

<strong>BROCKVILLE</strong> AND DISTRICT HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY BURSARY (1 x $500 in Leeds/Grenville) Awarded to a student<br />

who is pursuing a Canadian post-secondary education in horticulture, landscape maintenance or architecture, greenhouse<br />

management, or agriculture, and is in need of financial assistance.<br />

<strong>BROCKVILLE</strong> FLYING CLUB AVIATION AWARD ($100) Awarded to a student who is pursuing a post-secondary education in<br />

an aviation or aviation-related field.<br />

<strong>BROCKVILLE</strong> LION’S CLUB MUSIC FESTIVAL BURSARY ($500) Awarded to a graduating student in the Brockville area who<br />

is pursuing post-secondary education in a music program, has participated in the Music Festival, has been recommended by Mrs.<br />

Quick, and is in need of financial assistance.<br />

<strong>BROCKVILLE</strong> OPERATIC SOCIETY AWARD Awarded to a graduating student who is pursuing post-secondary studies related<br />

to music and/or theatre arts and/or production, and who has worked behind the scenes or on stage for the Brockville Operatic<br />

Society.<br />

<strong>BROCKVILLE</strong> ROADRUNNERS' CLUB BURSARY ($200) Awarded to a graduating student who is pursuing post-secondary<br />

studies and has actively participated in events sponsored by the club.<br />

DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES OF LEEDS AND GRENVILLE AWARD (1 x $750, 2 x $1,000 in Leeds/Grenville) Awarded to<br />

two graduating students who will be pursuing post-secondary education in the field of developmental services such as<br />

behavioral science and technology, developmental services worker, child and youth worker, social service worker, early childhood<br />

education, or related fields such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, nursing or social work.<br />

HUDSON-BURNBRAE FOUNDATION BURSARY ($700) Awarded to a student who is pursuing post-secondary education in<br />

agriculture, family studies, home economics, or life-sciences.<br />

LEEDS COUNTY STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL BURSARY (1 x $500 in Leeds) Awarded to a student who will pursue postsecondary<br />

education in environmental studies, forestry, wildlife biology, or geography and is involved in community service.<br />

MAITLAND EDUCATIONAL & RECREATIONAL CORPORATION BURSARY (up to $150 plus $50 to Ontario Scholars)<br />

Awarded to students who are Maitland residents, whose families have been involved in community life.<br />

SENS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR ALGONQUIN COLLEGE (1 x 1,000 in UCDSB) Awarded to a student who will<br />

attend a full-time program at Algonquin College, has a strong academic record, is involved in the community, participates in<br />

sport, and possesses strong teamwork skills.<br />

STAN PEARCE AWARD ($250) Awarded to a graduating student who has participated in the performing Arts in school or the<br />

community with preference given to a student continuing education in the Dramatic Arts field.<br />

PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS ONTARIO SCHOLARSHIP (2 X $500 in UCDSB) Awarded to two students who will enter an<br />

accredited engineering program at an Ontario university.<br />

CHUCK AND JUDY QUICK AWARD FOR CONTRIBUTION TO THE PERFORMING ARTS Awarded to a graduating student<br />

who is not pursuing music at a post-secondary institution, but has contributed significantly to the music department while at<br />

B.C.I.<br />

RAM AWARD Awarded to five graduating students who exhibit outstanding contribution to school life at BCI by<br />

demonstrating leadership in extra-curricular activities.<br />

DR. ALBERT ROSE BURSARY (4,000 shared in Leeds/Grenville) Awarded to students who live in rent-geared-to-income<br />

housing and who will attend a post-secondary institution or be enrolled in a trade/skill-based program.<br />

ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, <strong>BROCKVILLE</strong> BRANCH #96 AWARD (4 x $500) Awarded to students who are continuing their<br />

education at a post-secondary institution, are in financial need, and have a direct relationship to a member of the Legion, RCMP,<br />

or Canadian/Commonwealth Armed Forces.<br />

ST. JAMES MASONIC LODGE BURSARY ($500) Awarded to a worthy student who is planning to continue their education at<br />

any post-secondary institution or trade school and is in need of financial assistance.<br />

SECTION 2: AWARDS TO BE LISTED ON THE GENERAL APPLICATION<br />

B.C.I. ALUMNI AWARD (2 x $500) Awarded to graduating students, one male and one female, who have<br />

contributed significantly to the life of Brockville Collegiate Institute.<br />

B.C.I. SCHOOL COUNCIL BURSARY (2 x $250) Awarded to graduating students who are pursuing postsecondary<br />

education.<br />

B.G.H. NURSES’ ALUMNAE BURSARY ($300) Awarded to a graduating student continuing their<br />

education in the nursing field.<br />

JOAN BARRANCE AWARD ($150) Awarded to a graduating student who obtains a high combined mark in<br />

Math and Music, and who has contributed to the Math and Music programs.<br />

HARRIET BRESNAN AWARD ($1,000) Awarded to a student of Brockville Collegiate Institute of high<br />

academic standing who is attending a university, preferably, but not necessarily, Queen's University, and<br />

who is in need of financial assistance.<br />

BRITANNIA HOUSE AWARD ($1,142) Awarded to a deserving student(s) who has/have been in conflict<br />

with the law within the contexts of the young offenders act, pursuing post-secondary education at college,<br />

university, or a recognized technical apprenticeship or licensing program, and in financial need.<br />

BROCK LODGE, NO. 9, I00F AWARD ($300) Awarded to a student who is pursuing a post-secondary<br />

education.<br />

BROWN’S FINE FOOD SERVICES AWARD ($250) Awarded to a graduating student who demonstrates<br />

an enthusiasm for learning.<br />

BRIAN BURBRIDGE MEMORIAL AWARD ($500) Awarded to a student who is pursuing post-secondary<br />

education, demonstrates outstanding work ethic, and is in need of financial assistance.<br />

CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE (<strong>BROCKVILLE</strong> COUNCIL) BURSARY ($200) Awarded to a student of the<br />

Catholic faith pursuing post-secondary education.<br />

ROBERT CHARLES ALBERT FOLDEAK AWARD (2 x 1,000) Awarded to a graduating student entering<br />

first year studies at Queen’s University and in need of financial assistance.<br />

DOROTHEA FOX AWARD ($100) Awarded to a student who spends considerable time volunteering in the<br />

community.<br />

D.A. AND MARGARET GRANT SCHOLARSHIP ($1,280) Awarded on the recommendation of the Principal<br />

of Brockville Collegiate Institute to a graduate registered in the first year of any program at Queen's<br />

University.<br />

TIMOTHY GREEN MEMORIAL BURSARY ($100) Awarded to a graduating student.<br />

HIGHWAY PENTECOSTAL CHURCH AWARD ($250) Awarded to a student who has demonstrated good<br />

character and conduct for the duration of their high school career and is in need of financial assistance.<br />

COLONEL EDWARD JESSUP UNITED EMPIRE LOYALIST BURSARY ($250) Awarded to a graduating<br />

student who is pursuing post-secondary education and has shown interest and demonstrated high<br />

achievement in history.<br />

KINETTE CLUB CONTINUING EDUCATION AWARD ($300) Awarded to a female student who is a<br />

contributing member of the student population and who shows an outside interest in community involvement<br />

through volunteerism.<br />

KINSMEN CLUB OF <strong>BROCKVILLE</strong> AWARD ($500) Awarded to a student who has demonstrated financial<br />

need, community involvement, participation in extra-curricular activities, and pursuing post-secondary<br />

education in Canada.<br />

ROBIN LEWIS MEMORIAL BURSARY ($250) Awarded to a student who has excelled in Social Sciences<br />

and who exemplifies Mr. Lewis's hard-working nature, fun-loving spirit and caring of others.<br />

LEEDS AND GRENVILLE SKILLED TRADES AWARD ($500) Awarded to a student who is enrolled in a<br />

post-secondary skilled trades program including a university engineering program or any college technical<br />

program.<br />

LIONESS CLUB OF <strong>BROCKVILLE</strong> AWARD ($500 ) Awarded to a deserving student who is not an Ontario<br />

Scholar, and who is continuing their studies at a post-secondary institution.<br />

LIONS CLUB OF <strong>BROCKVILLE</strong> AWARD ($500) Awarded to a deserving student who is pursuing postsecondary<br />

education at a recognized university or community college, or an apprenticeship.<br />

FAYE LYON AND LOUANNE BROUWER BURSARY ($200) Awarded to a student who is pursuing postsecondary<br />

education in nursing or health sciences.<br />

O.S.S.T.F. BURSARY ($250) Awarded to a student who is continuing their studies at a post-secondary<br />

institution.<br />

JOHN AND JOAN PATTERSON VOLUNTEER AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE ($150) Awarded to<br />

a graduating student who is continuing their education at a university and who has demonstrated an<br />

outstanding role as a volunteer in their community.<br />

NICHOLAS PATTERSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($500) Awarded to a student enrolled in a postsecondary<br />

institution in trades.<br />

PHOTO VISIONS BURSARY ($150) Awarded to a student who was actively involved in school activities<br />

and is enrolled in a post-secondary institution.<br />

ROTARY CLUB YOUTH MERIT AWARD ($500) Awarded to a graduating student who will attend a postsecondary<br />

institution in the fall, with an above average academic record, a high level of involvement in<br />

school and community activities, high ethical standards and a good relationship with school staff and other<br />

students.<br />

ROYAL BROCK ACHIEVEMENT IN BUSINESS STUDIES AWARD ($250) Awarded to a graduating<br />

student who has demonstrated high achievement in at least three business courses and who is pursuing<br />

business studies at the post-secondary level.<br />

ST. LAWRENCE COLLEGE BOARD OF GOVERNORS’ ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP ($500) Awarded to a<br />

deserving graduate who is entering any full-time post-secondary program at St. Lawrence College.<br />

DR. THE REVEREND JOHN F. H. STEWART MEMORIAL BURSARY ($100) Awarded to a student for<br />

whom both music and community service play a large role, and who will be pursuing a post-secondary<br />

education in either medicine or ministry.<br />

STUDENT SUCCESS BURSARY ($500) Awarded to a deserving student who will be directly entering the<br />

work force upon graduation.<br />

SUBWAY BURSARY ($200) Awarded to a student who is pursuing post-secondary education, has<br />

contributed significantly to the extra-curricular life of Brockville Collegiate, and is not an Ontario Scholar.<br />

THIS IS THAT SERVICES AWARD ($50) Awarded to graduating students pursuing post-secondary<br />

education.<br />

3M AWARD ($1,000) Awarded to a student who is pursuing a university education in a field of science,<br />

math, or engineering.<br />

BRIAN VAN MIERLO CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT AWARD ($100) Awarded to a student who<br />

demonstrates interest and high achievement in a Grade 12 accounting course.<br />

U.C. REALTY AWARD ($50) Awarded to a student who will pursue business at the post-secondary level<br />

or who is currently involved in, or will be involved in an entrepreneurial endeavor (proof will be required).<br />

WEBSTER MEMORIAL FUND BURSARIES (2 x $200) Awarded to two deserving graduates, one male and<br />

one female.<br />

MARJORIE WINSLOW MEMORIAL AWARD ($340) Awarded to a graduating student who is pursuing<br />

university education in science.<br />
