Side by Side On the Fast Track WHEN IT COMES TO SPORTS FANS, there’s always a spirited debate about who’s the most dedicated. You can make a case for football fanatics, basketball buffs or ice hockey junkies. But in our book, no one can match NASCAR fans for fierce loyalty to their heroes behind the wheel, in good times and bad. Take Patricia Johnson, a UAW member at DaimlerChrysler’s Indianapolis Foundry. She’s a perfect example of what we’re talking about. She went to her first Winston Cup race in 2002, and she’s been hooked ever DaimlerChrysler Senior Vice since. “I never thought I’d be into NASCAR, but that was President John Franciosi (left) and only because I hadn’t given it a try,” explains Patricia. UAW Vice President Nate Gooden We’re dedicating this 2005 Special Racing Issue of Tomorrow to Patricia Johnson (see page 9) and the millions of kindred NASCAR nuts who have made the Nextel Cup Series the hottest ticket in motorsports — and perhaps the most successful of all professional sports. The UAW-DaimlerChrysler National Training Center is proud to publish this issue, distributed through the NTC’s NASCAR Exhibit at selected races during the season. Our association with NASCAR is a great showcase for our union-management alliance, which has helped to fuel Chrysler Group’s recent success in the automotive marketplace. Our support begins early in the year with title sponsorship of the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (see page 6) and continues all season through our partnership with Evernham Motorsports. Like many NASCAR fans, we were thrilled to watch our guys, Kasey Kahne and Jeremy Mayfield, power toward the front of the Nextel Cup pack in the UAW-DaimlerChrysler NTC–sponsored No. 9 and No. 19 Dodges in 2004 (see page 12). And we expect them to make another strong showing in 2005 piloting newgeneration Dodge Chargers. The legacy also continues off the track, with the arrival of the 2006 Dodge Charger sedan, a muscle car for the family. Throughout the season, our association with NASCAR gives us an opportunity to share our pride in all Chrysler Group products and in the workers who build them. We hope you enjoy the NTC’s NASCAR Exhibit and experience the knowledge and infectious enthusiasm of our P3 (People, Pride and Product) Team members (see page 24).
