the surrounding air. As <strong>aerosols</strong>, these pollutants in the form <strong>of</strong> mist, smoke<br />

<strong>and</strong> dust affect the health <strong>of</strong> your employees, the machines <strong>and</strong> production<br />

facilities you use as well as the quality <strong>of</strong> your products. Below a diameter <strong>of</strong> 2.5<br />

µm, in particular, the protective mechanisms <strong>of</strong> the human respiratory tract are<br />

incapable to secrete these particles. In the case <strong>of</strong> hazardous substances, they<br />

can quickly lead to chronic respiratory tract or cardiovascular diseases.<br />

<strong>Separation</strong> <strong>of</strong> oil mist, oil smoke, Plasticizer vapors <strong>and</strong> emulsion<br />

mist – the comprehensive solution<br />

The Smog-Hog SHN/SG Series is our solution to oil smoke <strong>and</strong> coolant mist<br />

problems in the <strong>industrial</strong> work area. With an established name in the<br />

industry, our Smog-Hog br<strong>and</strong> electrostatic precipitators (ESP) are engineered<br />

to perform long-term, heavy-duty <strong>industrial</strong> air cleaning <strong>and</strong> are one <strong>of</strong> the<br />

most effective ways to collect oily, wet contaminants that are a result <strong>of</strong> many<br />

metalworking processes. Smog-Hog mist collectors require no disposable<br />

filters, but instead use an ionizer to charge contaminants <strong>and</strong> a collection cell<br />

to remove them from the air stream. By electronically charging both large <strong>and</strong><br />

microscopic contaminants, these systems capture impurities like a magnet in<br />

the collection cells. At the same time, recyclable coolants <strong>and</strong> oil are collected<br />

for reuse, <strong>and</strong> safe, breathable air is discharged back into the workplace.<br />

Investing in a Smog-Hog Filter can improve your company’s pr<strong>of</strong>itability by<br />

reducing both your energy <strong>and</strong> housekeeping costs. These systems recirculate<br />

air into your plant <strong>and</strong> reduce exhaust air make-up requirements up to 80%.<br />

And thous<strong>and</strong>s <strong>of</strong> litres <strong>of</strong> valuable resources such as cutting oils, lubricants,<br />

coolants <strong>and</strong> plasticizers are recycled each year by customers who have installed<br />

MENA – mechanical coalescence filters<br />

<strong>Separation</strong> <strong>of</strong> emulsion mist <strong>and</strong> <strong>aerosols</strong> with low flash<br />

points – the compact solution<br />

Aerosol-loaded air (mist) is guided through a porous fiber package, where oil<br />

<strong>and</strong> dirt particles 'statistically' strike filter fibers <strong>and</strong> remain trapped there due<br />

to an adhesive force in a first step, forming droplets. The droplets form larger<br />

drops with existing ones thereby reducing the surface (i.e. they coalesce) <strong>and</strong><br />

drain.<br />

The MENA filters are made from a special synthetic fiber with hydrophobic<br />

properties, a self-cleaning capability owing to its coalescence properties <strong>and</strong> its<br />

resilience with high pollutant concentrations make it the ideal filter media for<br />

this application.<br />

Thanks to the compact, modular construction the system has a<br />

4-stage design <strong>and</strong> can be mounted on a machine or console:<br />

• A pre-filter removes aerosol particles > 2 µm as well as dust <strong>and</strong> chips (metal<br />

mesh wire)<br />

• The first coalescence filter <strong>of</strong> efficiency class F5 according to EN 779 removes<br />

aerosol particles from 0.6 µm to 3 µm<br />

• The second coalescence filter <strong>of</strong> efficiency class F9 according to EN 779<br />

removes aerosol particles < 0.8 µm<br />

• Finally, the HEPA H13 filter – acting merely as 'police filter' - separates the<br />

very small amounts <strong>of</strong> remaining particles.<br />

The filter design has a good serviceable life <strong>and</strong> long maintenance intervals<br />

because every filter stage takes over a specific particle spectrum section.<br />

Likewise, the clean gas-side concentration <strong>of</strong> pollutants remaining as <strong>aerosols</strong><br />

is therefore below 1 mg/m 3 – even under high pollutant concentrations.<br />

The light construction design <strong>of</strong> the filter elements makes them easy to<br />

maintain. In addition, a galvanized metal frame provides hygienic advantages<br />

compared to the otherwise conventional wood, MDF or carton frames.<br />

Besides separation <strong>of</strong> emulsions, MENA systems are especially suitable for<br />

separating low flame point pollutants such as petroleum, non-conductors,<br />

paraffins, cleaners in <strong>industrial</strong> washing machines or solvents.
