GENERAL RULES FOR ALL GOAT SHOWS<br />

Superintendent - Connie Toombs<br />

1. Exhibitors must comply with all Exhibitor, Livestock, and <strong>Goat</strong> <strong>Show</strong> <strong>Rules</strong>.<br />

2. Exhibitors must comply with all Federal and State Livestock Regulations.<br />

3. <strong>Goat</strong>s showing evidence of illness, disease, parasite or malnourishment will be released and must be<br />

immediately removed from the fairgrounds.<br />

4. No intact male goats over 2 months of age are allowed on the fairgrounds.<br />

5. All goats must be scrapies tagged or tattooed as required by the Arkansas State Veterinarian and the USDA<br />

Scrapies Eradication Guidelines.<br />

6. All goats will be shown with a collar or chain, a short lead is allowed. Exhibitors 11 years old and under may<br />

show goats in a halter and lead line <strong>for</strong> added control.<br />

DAIRY GOAT SHOW RULES<br />

1. All goats entered and shown must be registered by the American Dairy <strong>Goat</strong> Association or American <strong>Goat</strong><br />

Society and be one of the following breeds: Alpine, LaMancha, Nigerian Dwarf, Nubian, Oberhasli, Saanen,<br />

Sable, Toggenburg, and Recorded Grade dairy goats.<br />

2. Official ADGA or AGS registration papers in the name of the exhibitor must be provided when goats arrive on the<br />

fairgrounds. Registration must have been completed 30 days prior to the show.<br />

3. All breeds will be shown groomed to the breed standard.<br />

4. Open Division and Junior Division classes will be judged and awarded separately.<br />

5. All classes will be awarded 1 st through 3 rd place ribbons.<br />

6. The top placing Junior Division <strong>Goat</strong>s representing each breed will be combined <strong>for</strong> an overall Grand Supreme<br />

Dairy <strong>Goat</strong> Drive.<br />

7. GOATS ENTERED IN THIS SHOW ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER THE MARKET GOAT SHOW.<br />

8. Base age is determined on date of show.<br />

JUNIOR DAIRY DOE<br />

1. 0-6 months of age<br />

2. 6-12 months of age<br />

SENIOR DAIRY DOE<br />

3. 12-24 months of age<br />

4. 24-36 months of age<br />

5. 36-60 months of age<br />

BOER GOAT SHOW RULES<br />

1. Registered <strong>Goat</strong>s must provide official ABGA registry papers in the name of the exhibitor when goats arrive on<br />

the fairgrounds. Registration papers must have been completed 30 days prior to the show.<br />

2. <strong>Goat</strong>s will be shown groomed to breed standard.<br />

3. Open Division and Junior Division classes will be judged and awarded separately.<br />

4. All classes will be awarded 1 st through 3 rd place ribbons.<br />

5. GOATS ENTERED IN THIS SHOW ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER THE MARKET GOAT SHOW.<br />

COMMERCIAL MEAT DOE SHOW RULES<br />

4-H or FFA Members Only<br />

The goal of the Commercial Meat Doe <strong>Show</strong> is to give interested <strong>Johnson</strong> <strong>County</strong> 4-H and FFA Youth<br />

exhibitors an opportunity to showcase quality meat goats without the cost involved in joining a purebred registry.<br />

Learning to manage meat goats will give young people an opportunity to meet a growing market niche, as this<br />

alternative protein source is highly prized by many ethnic cultures in the U.S. today.<br />

Commercial Meat Does are purebred and crossbred <strong>Goat</strong>s that are of such high quality they are kept by the<br />

owner and used <strong>for</strong> breeding in a commercial herd. They must exhibit the primary traits associated with meat goat<br />

breeds including: Boer, Kiko, Pygmy, Spanish, and Myotonic (Fainting <strong>Goat</strong>) breeds.<br />

1. <strong>Goat</strong>s are subject to inspection by show officials and must have all their baby teeth present upon inspection.<br />

No Exceptions.<br />

2. <strong>Goat</strong>s must not be registered with any breed association.<br />

3. <strong>Goat</strong>s with horns must have them tipped, no sharp points.<br />

4. <strong>Goat</strong>s will be shown well groomed with hair trimmed in a neat manner but not shorn or clipped close to the<br />

body.<br />

5. If more than ten (10) <strong>Goat</strong>s enter the show the entries will be sorted by weight and split as evenly as possible<br />

into classes.<br />

6. 1 st through 3 rd place ribbons.<br />

7. GOATS ENTERED IN THIS SHOW ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER THE MARKET GOAT SHOW.<br />

MARKET GOAT SHOW RULES<br />

4-H or FFA Members Only<br />

1. At weigh-in, Market <strong>Goat</strong>s must have all of their baby teeth or they will be disqualified and released from the<br />

fairgrounds.<br />

2. At weigh-in, Market <strong>Goat</strong>s must weigh a minimum of 40 lbs. and not exceed 150 lbs.<br />

3. Market <strong>Goat</strong>s may be male or female, male goats must be castrated.<br />

4. Female <strong>Goat</strong>s that show in the Market <strong>Goat</strong> Class are ineligible to show in the Boer <strong>Goat</strong> <strong>Show</strong> or Commercial<br />

Meat Doe <strong>Show</strong> or the Dairy <strong>Goat</strong> <strong>Show</strong>.<br />

5. Market <strong>Goat</strong>s may be de-horned or horned; All <strong>Goat</strong>s with Horns must have their horns tipped, NO SHARP<br />

POINTS.<br />

6. All Market <strong>Goat</strong>s must be freshly shorn or clipped. Fur should be no more than 3/8 inch long on the entire body<br />

above the knees and hocks. Clipping of heads and tails is left to the exhibitor’s discretion.<br />

7. Bracing of Market <strong>Goat</strong>s is at the judge’s discretion.<br />

8. Classes <strong>for</strong> Market <strong>Goat</strong>s are determined after the weigh in of all goats and will be divided as evenly as<br />

possible by number of entries at fair time.<br />

9. Exhibitors may enter two goats in this show but they must fall into different classes by weight otherwise the<br />

second entry is disqualified.<br />
