Coastal Bend (N) Region<br />

The Coastal Bend <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Planning<br />

Area includes 11 counties, portions of the<br />

Nueces River Basin, and its adjoining coastal<br />

basins, including the Nueces Estuary.<br />

The Coastal Bend <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Planning Area includes 11 counties, portions of the Nueces River Basin, and<br />

its adjoining coastal basins, including the Nueces Estuary (Figure N.1). The region’s largest economic sectors<br />

are service industries, retail trade, government, construction, manufacturing, and the petrochemical industry.<br />

Corpus Christi is the region’s largest metropolitan area. The 2011 Coastal Bend (N) <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Plan can be<br />

PLAN HIGHLIGHTS<br />

• Additional supply needed in 2060—75,744 acre-feet per year<br />

• Recommended water management strategy volume in 2060—156,326 acre-feet per year<br />

• Total capital cost—$656 million<br />

• Conservation accounts for 5 percent of 2060 strategy volumes<br />

• Two new major reservoirs (Lavaca Off-Channel, Nueces Off-Channel)<br />

• Limited unmet mining needs<br />
