COURSE LOAD REQUIREMENT FOR EXCHANGE<br />
REMEMBER: Students on combined Honours degree programmes should take an equal number of courses in each subject during their<br />
exchange year. The split may vary for students taking joint degrees who are only going on exchange for one semester.<br />
USA<br />
12 credits per semester (usually 4 x 3-credit courses but could also be 3 x 4-credit courses). This equals a full year load of 24 credits (usually 8 courses).<br />
CANADA<br />
<strong>University</strong> of Victoria – 6 credits per semester (usually 4 x 1.5-credit courses).<br />
<strong>University</strong> of Toronto – a minimum of 4 and maximum of 5 credits per year. The courses at Toronto are usually 0.5 or 1.0 credits and can last for one semester or the full academic<br />
year.<br />
Carleton <strong>University</strong> - a minimum of 4 and maximum of 5 credits per year. Similar to Toronto, the courses are usually 0.5 or 1.0 credits and can last for a semester or all year.<br />
Ryerson <strong>University</strong> – 4 credits per semester. Courses are usually 1.0 or 2.0 credits and can last for one semester or all year.<br />
Simon Fraser <strong>University</strong> – 12 credit hours per semester (usually 4 x 3-credit courses or 3 x 4-credit courses)<br />
AUSTRALIA<br />
<strong>University</strong> of Sydney – 18 - 24 credits per semester (usually 3 or 4 x 6-credit courses)<br />
Flinders <strong>University</strong> – 18 credits per semester (usually four x 4.5-credit courses, but Flinders also offers 3 and 6 credit courses)<br />
HONG KONG<br />
City <strong>University</strong> Hong Kong and Lingnan <strong>University</strong> – a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 18 credits per semester (usually four x 3-credit courses)<br />
JAPAN<br />
Akita <strong>University</strong> – a minimum of 4 courses (12 credits) per semester<br />
Waseda <strong>University</strong> – a minimum of 5 courses (16 credits) per semester<br />

NOTES FOR STUDENTS AND OVERSEAS ADVISORS<br />
1. In selecting and approving modules to be taken, the overseas advisor should ensure that the courses are at an academic level suitable to the<br />
student’s programme and capabilities.<br />
2. Where a student is following a combined degree programme, the signature of both overseas advisors is required. An indication of the<br />
number of <strong>University</strong> of Stirling credits to be gained in each of the combined subjects must be clearly given.<br />
3. Students must take the equivalent of any core modules whilst on exchange. Please indicate clearly on this form which core module will<br />
be covered by the content of the exchange module.<br />
4. Once the student and overseas advisor(s) have signed this <strong>Learning</strong> <strong>Agreement</strong>, it must be returned to the International <strong>Exchange</strong>s<br />
Manager, Student Recruitment, Admissions and International Affairs, Pathfoot C3. Both the student and the overseas advisor should keep a<br />
copy of this <strong>SA1</strong> form for their records.<br />
5. When the <strong>University</strong> writes to the student to confirm approval for the exchange, a copy of this signed form will be included with the<br />
approval letter and the student should take this to the host institution for confirmation of course registration and completion.<br />
6. Students MUST anotate this form with any changes upon final registration at the host university each semester or term. All changes to this<br />
learning agreement must be approved by the overseas advisor(s).<br />
