We offer over 70 taught postgraduate programmes, plus research
opportunities across all disciplines. For information on any of
these programmes, please get in touch.
TAUGHT (MASTER’S) PROGRAMMES
We offer a broad range of stimulating taught postgraduate
degrees, reflecting the diverse interests of our staff and
their areas of expertise. Most programmes last 12 months,
beginning in mid-September each year. They typically involve
nine months of class-based learning, followed by three
months for your research project or dissertation.

RESEARCH PROGRAMMES
We offer research-based programmes, leading to the
award of a PhD or MPhil. We also offer a number of
Professional Doctorates which are research degrees with
a taught component. For information about staff research

what are the ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?
Normally, a good first (Honours) degree is required. For some
programmes your first degree must be in a related subject
area, however many programmes suit any background.
Work experience may be required for some programmes.

If English is not your native language
You will need to demonstrate a level of language proficiency.
Typically we accept an IELTS score of 6.0 – 7.0 (depending on
the programme) with no less than 5.0 in each component.
We also accept TOEFL score of 80 IBT (or 550 PBT; 213 CBT).
International Study Centre (ISC)
International students who do not have the entrance
requirements to enter directly on to a Stirling postgraduate
programme can opt to study for the Pre-Masters programme
at the International Study Centre on campus. This is a tailormade
two- or three-term programme consisting of academic
subjects, study skills and English language training. Once
students have successfully completed the course and have
met entry standards, they will proceed directly to their
preferred Master’s programme. Contact details for the ISC
can be found on page 21.
HOW DO I APPLY?
Please apply direct to the University and you can submit an
application up to one year before the programme begins.

How much does it cost?
Tuition fees are payable for all postgraduate programmes.
Fees are set each year; the level of fees varies according to
programme choice and according to your country of domicile.
