Postgraduate guide<br />

We <strong>of</strong>fer over 70 taught postgraduate programmes, plus research<br />

opportunities across all disciplines. For information on any <strong>of</strong><br />

these programmes, please get in touch.<br />

TAUGHT (MASTER’S) PROGRAMMES<br />

We <strong>of</strong>fer a broad range <strong>of</strong> stimulating taught postgraduate<br />

degrees, reflecting the diverse interests <strong>of</strong> our staff and<br />

their areas <strong>of</strong> expertise. Most programmes last 12 months,<br />

beginning in mid-September each year. They typically involve<br />

nine months <strong>of</strong> class-based learning, followed by three<br />

months for your research project or dissertation.<br />

RESEARCH PROGRAMMES<br />

We <strong>of</strong>fer research-based programmes, leading to the<br />

award <strong>of</strong> a PhD or MPhil. We also <strong>of</strong>fer a number <strong>of</strong><br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Doctorates which are research degrees with<br />

a taught component. For information about staff research<br />

what are the ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?<br />

Normally, a good first (Honours) degree is required. For some<br />

programmes your first degree must be in a related subject<br />

area, however many programmes suit any background.<br />

Work experience may be required for some programmes.<br />

If English is not your native language<br />

You will need to demonstrate a level <strong>of</strong> language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency.<br />

Typically we accept an IELTS score <strong>of</strong> 6.0 – 7.0 (depending on<br />

the programme) with no less than 5.0 in each component.<br />

We also accept TOEFL score <strong>of</strong> 80 IBT (or 550 PBT; 213 CBT).<br />

International Study Centre (ISC)<br />

International students who do not have the entrance<br />

requirements to enter directly on to a <strong>Stirling</strong> postgraduate<br />

programme can opt to study for the Pre-Masters programme<br />

at the International Study Centre on campus. This is a tailormade<br />

two- or three-term programme consisting <strong>of</strong> academic<br />

subjects, study skills and English language training. Once<br />

students have successfully completed the course and have<br />

met entry standards, they will proceed directly to their<br />

preferred Master’s programme. Contact details for the ISC<br />

can be found on page 21.<br />

Please apply direct to the <strong>University</strong> and you can submit an<br />

application up to one year before the programme begins.<br />

How much does it cost?<br />

Tuition fees are payable for all postgraduate programmes.<br />

Fees are set each year; the level <strong>of</strong> fees varies according to<br />

programme choice and according to your country <strong>of</strong> domicile.<br />
