In order to live safely and comfortably in their home, almost three-quarters of
older respondents (24) said they would like assistance obtaining information
or advice about services for older people. Equal numbers of respondents
(23) said they would like assistance with home safety/security measures and
help with translation/interpretation. Almost two-thirds of respondents (22)
would like assistance filling in forms, 17 respondents would like help with
decorating, 14 respondents would like assistance with welfare adaptations
and 14 with gardening. More than one-third of respondents (13) stated they
would like help with housework (Table 33).
6.8 Future housing needs
Older respondents were asked to consider how important a number
of factors would be in influencing where they live in the future. The
overwhelming majority (32 out of 34 respondents) felt home security was
important and over four-fifths (28 respondents) felt it was important to be
close to family. Twenty-seven older respondents felt it was important to
have easy access to health services and more than two-thirds (23) felt it was
important to have their own place. Almost two-thirds of respondents (22)
felt it was important to have easy access to Sai Pak and the same number
felt it was important to have easy access to shops. More than half of older
respondents (20) felt it was important to be close to friends and the same
number felt it was important to have easy access to recreational facilities.
Half of older respondents (17) felt it was important to get help with
housework (Table 34).
