INCIDENCE
Incidence of cardiac arrest
In 2011/12, the incidence of OHCA in Victoria was 93.9 per 100,000 population. 1 This result is
comparable to internationally reported incidence rates, although variation across continents is
well established. In the rural region, the incidence of OHCA was higher than the metropolitan
region: 112.2 versus 87.6 events per 100,000 population respectively. Incidence of events across
regions did not show significant variation with the smallest incidence observed in the Eastern
Metropolitan Region (79.5 events per 100,000 population) and the highest incidence observed
in the Gippsland region (122.3 events per 100,000 population).
