Strategic themes Strategies Outcomes Health policy and system development: Further develop the ambulance role in improving the health system performance • Provide policy input to DH to ensure unintended impacts of health system developments on ambulance service delivery are minimised • Collaborate with DH and health services to identify opportunities and develop strategies to improve the health system response for specific categories of high acuity patients • Strengthen links with the primary health care sector and explore options to improve service delivery via partnerships with other service providers, particularly general practitioners More effective and appropriate use of ambulance services Better coordination of ambulance and health services and improved outcomes for high acuity patients More appropriate use of ambulance services and improved patient outcomes • Work through the Council of Ambulance Authorities to improve the recognition of the ambulance role and issues at a national level Increased national recognition of the ambulance contribution to health system performance 25
