Mike Smith
Remember when he was the backup goalie of the future in Dallas?
The average Joe in Tampa? Mike Smith had a stellar season last year,
but you can bet league officials will crack down on his rough play and
opposing scorers will begin to figure out his weaknesses. In many
keeper and one-year drafts, Smith is going higher than established
veterans like Ryan Miller, Jimmy Howard, or Carey Price. Don’t throw
too much confidence in one good season. If you are a GM that
owned Smith as an up and comer, don’t turn him into the girlfriend
that you dumped, but now want back.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Don’t get me wrong – I like OEL. I just think he will be extremely overvalued after his playoff
success. The hits he puts up (150+ this year) are nice, but there are a plethora of other defensemen that
put up similar stats without the premium and pedigree.
Shane Doan
If he comes back to Phoenix, his numbers will continue to diminish over the next three seasons. Doan is
a much better fantasy pick if he lands in Vancouver, but there is too much liability inherent in an aging,
physical player. I see Doan putting up Phoenix-like numbers in NYR, Nashville, and Buffalo (other teams
in the Doan sweepstakes), so steer clear if he signs with them as well.
