Consorzio TRAIN<br />

The Company<br />

TRAIN Consortium is an organisation established 1998, financially supported by the participation in<br />

national and EU funded RTD programmes. It represents the first <strong>Italia</strong>n exemple of co-operation<br />

among RTD organisations, Industry and other national economic operators in Transport sector. It was<br />

promoted by ENEA - <strong>Italia</strong>n National Agency on New Technologies, Energy and Environment - and it<br />

also includes at present as partners: TRENITALIA Spa and RFI Spa (IT Railways Co.), Uniontrasporti<br />

S.c.a.r.l (Society promoted by <strong>Italia</strong>n Chambers of Commerce for substaining the development of<br />

Transport System, Logistics and infrastructure), Ansaldo Trasporti Railway Systems Spa and<br />

Ansaldobreda Spa (<strong>Italia</strong>n Industries operating in land transport technologies), D’Appolonia Spa<br />

(Engineering Company operating in information and safety technologies), Reggiane Cranes and Plant<br />

Spa (Industry operating in maritime transport technologies), Bertolotti Spa (Industry operating in<br />

land, maritime and railway transport technologies), Salerno University and Lecce University.<br />

TRAIN mai n goal is to enhance the <strong>Italia</strong>n RTD output and effectiveness within land transport and<br />

maritime technologies in the field of transport. Moreover it operates to extend its own goal through<br />

the co-operation with European industries on technology transfer and co-ordination of national and EU<br />

RTD programmes.<br />

ITS Expertise & Solutions<br />

The activity of TRAIN concerns various technological areas, from design to production, operational,<br />

safety & ecology issues, with regard to vehicles, transport systems and logistics. Results have been<br />

achieved, through a large use of ITS systems, in innovative technologies on railway transport,<br />

improvement of multi-modal logistic processes, set up of management systems applied to the urban<br />

mobility of public transport.<br />

The development of intermodality, as a way to rationalise means and resources connected to the<br />

transport service, the development of new ITS technologies, represents the typical attitude of TRAIN<br />

in its rule as promoter and path of cooperation between research and industry. TRAIN works with<br />

both private and public organizations in cooperation with industrial and/or research partners in the<br />

different phases of projects: feasibility studies, planning, modeling, cost- benefits analyses, system<br />

requirements specification, technical specifications, design, implementation, system integration, test<br />

and validation, contracting, procurement and project management.<br />
