ATAF<br />

The Company<br />

ATAF, Azienda Trasporti Area Fiorentina, operates the public transport in the city of Florence and<br />

represents a Consortium of nine Municipalities: Bagno a Ripoli, Calenzano, Campi Bisenzio, Fiesole,<br />

Florence, Impruneta, Scandicci, Sesto Fiorentino, and Vaglia. that cover a total territorial surface area<br />

of 538 square km with a population of just on 600,000 residents.<br />

The ATAF Consortium that controls all local public transport in the Florentine area is currently being<br />

transformed into a joint stock company that will come to fruition during the year 2000, while at the<br />

same time establishing a network of joint ventures together with private partners operating in the<br />

field of transport.<br />

ITS Expertise & Solutions<br />

ATAF is active in the development and installation of ITS solutions for Fleet monitoring and<br />

management, user information systems and Demand Responsive Systems since Eighties making the<br />

public transport fleet operating in Florence one of the most technologically advanced in Europe.<br />

ATAF is also involved in several European Projects financed in the Framework Programmes and tin the<br />

INTERREG Programmes, and aimed at studying and experimenting new ITS systems and services for<br />

public transport.<br />
