ATAF
The Company
ATAF, Azienda Trasporti Area Fiorentina, operates the public transport in the city of Florence and
represents a Consortium of nine Municipalities: Bagno a Ripoli, Calenzano, Campi Bisenzio, Fiesole,
Florence, Impruneta, Scandicci, Sesto Fiorentino, and Vaglia. that cover a total territorial surface area
of 538 square km with a population of just on 600,000 residents.
The ATAF Consortium that controls all local public transport in the Florentine area is currently being
transformed into a joint stock company that will come to fruition during the year 2000, while at the
same time establishing a network of joint ventures together with private partners operating in the
field of transport.
ITS Expertise & Solutions
ATAF is active in the development and installation of ITS solutions for Fleet monitoring and
management, user information systems and Demand Responsive Systems since Eighties making the
public transport fleet operating in Florence one of the most technologically advanced in Europe.
ATAF is also involved in several European Projects financed in the Framework Programmes and tin the
INTERREG Programmes, and aimed at studying and experimenting new ITS systems and services for
public transport.
