Technical Committee Activities
The Technical Committee of TTS Italia has seven active Working Groups on strategic themes for the
development of telematics for transport in Italy.
Urban traffic control
Collective urban transport
On-board vehicle safety
Road-tolling
Dangerous goods transport
E-call
Infomobility
The working groups are composed of experts of the Associates and their objectives are analysis,
investigation and elaboration of proposals on identified subjects. The goal is to develop proposals for
standards, design, strategies, methods to accelerate transport system innovation in the Country,
through the creation of forums for discussion open to all the actors active in the sector.
ARTIST- Italian ITS Architecture
The promotion of ARTIST is one of the primary strategic missions of TTS Italia. To this end, the
Secretariat of TTS Italia has been deeply involved since 2002 in the diffusion of information about
ARTIST, giving maximum visibility to the advancement of the architecture through its own channels
of communication as well as organising relevant meetings and in-depth studies.
In particular, during 2005-2006, the TTS Italia Secretary promoted two studies for the designing of
two modules of the ARTIST Architecture related to:
Urban Traffic Management

Urban Freight Transport Management
The study on the “Urban Traffic Management” module have been carried out in collaboration with the
Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. The principal result of the
study was the implementation of the Physical Architecture and Organisational Architecture associated
to the module, as they were missing in Version 1 of the National ITS Architecture. The study also
allowed the definition of a method of evaluation/measurement of a grade of efficiency which permits
the identification of the gap in terms of performance and satisfaction of existing user requirements
between already existing ITS and the reference architecture ARTIST. The identified method
represents an innovative element in the transport field.
