Elk safari by snowmobile 

We start our snowmobiles in the village of Laukkuluspa and make our way into the 

snow-clad winter landscape. We cross the Kalix River and mires, which are important 

elk routes. We can almost give a 100% guarantee that you will see elk in the 

area. We drive up on a mountain plateau above the tree line, 1012 m above sea level, 

where we enjoy a warm lingonberry drink and majestic views of the mountains.

Snowmobile tour through Europe’s last wilderness 

Collection from your hotel and a short transfer to the activity area where winter 

clothing will be handed out. Two persons per snowmobile, and we set off into

Snowmobile tour to ICEHOTEL 

You will be riding the snowmobiles over frozen and snowcovered lakes right into 

the wilderness and through the unspoilt winter landscape. The guide will take you 

down to the small town of Poikkijärvi and you will then cross Torne River. Once 

you’ve arrived at ICEHOTEL, you can take part in a guided tour. After about 2,5

Our tour is an exciting adventure to look at the northern lights at Aptasvaara. Our 

guide will lead you over the frozen lakes in the dark, and through unspoilt forests 

to the top of Aptasvaara. From here, the chances are very good that you will see

Coffee and dog team tour 

A dog team tour is a fantastic way to experience nature in winter. The dogs howl and 

pull on the harness with excitement as they wait to pull you through the wilderness. 

As soon as the guide loosens the anchor, the dogs fall silent and the only sound is the 

dry snow against the runners of the sled. Silence, stillness and action, all at the same

Dog team tour on the ‘trapline’ 

Collection from Kiruna and transport to the log hut by the dog team kennels. There 

you will change into warm clothes and meet the dog teams before we set off. You can 

drive your own dog team, alone or with a friend sitting in the sled. Alternatively you 

can go in the guide’s sled. At the hut, we light a fire and prepare lunch, for the dogs 

too. There is then a short snowshoe hike on the ‘trapline’. With the help of the dogs, we 

make our way back to the kennels where you will be transported back to your hotel.

Come along to the underworld! 

Come along to the world’s biggest underground iron-ore mine. We will take a coach 

direct from the Tourist Agency into the mountain and down to the show mine 

LKAB InfoMine at a level of 540 metres. Here in Kiruna, much revolves around our

Northern lights 

- a colourful and sparkling natural 

phenomenon 

t h i s my t h i c a l, almost magical, light is a 

fantastic experience! Green, blue, purple 

and red explode in a spectacle of colours 

like veils draping the heavens. What are we 

actually seeing? 

Charged particles, plasma, thrown out 

into space from the sun. It is called solar 

wind. The solar wind collides with atoms 

in the earth’s atmosphere. Most of the solar 

wind hits the atmosphere at the poles, as it 

follows the earth’s magnetic field. Energy is 

then released in the form of light, namely 

polar light. 

Kiruna’s proximity to the North Pole makes 

it an ideal place for northern lights. In 

fact, it means that we have northern lights 

all the year round, day and night, whatever 

the temperature and weather. It may 

be, however, that it is not visible from just 

where you are because it is too light, e.g., 

in the middle of the day or in the summer 

(then we have midnight sun) or because it is 

overcast with lots of clouds in the way. 

To experience this light phenomenon and 

get away from the city lights, join us by dog 

team, snowmobile or horse for a tour with 

a difference out into the wilderness. A new 

option is to visit the Aurora Sky Station 

located at the top of Mount Nuolja in the 

little mountain village of Abisko, approx 

93 km north-west of Kiruna. Take the cableway 

that runs up to Aurora Sky Station 

several nights a week, and learn more about 

the northern lights and enjoy the amazing 

views. No two northern lights are the same, 

and who knows, if you listen very carefully 

you may hear a crackle!
