The isodasycarpidone derivative 7, formed by aldol reaction of 6, represents a tetracyclic substructure of strychnos-type alkaloids.

Angenot Screening for in-vitro antifungal activities of some indole alkaloids 1995 Planta Medica 61(5): 475-477 Abstract Several indole alkaloids were tested by the agar dilution technique on a panel of human pathogenic fungi, yeasts, and dermatophytes. Our results indicate that the most active compounds possess a betacarboline skeleton and that the presence of a 3-4 double bond enhances the activity. Elucidation of its structure is based mainly on 1D and 2D NMR studies. The new alkaloid has a zwitterionic asymmetrical bis-indole structure and is named guianensine. Three species reared, one each from Spondias pinnata (L. f) Kurz (Anacardiaceae) and Strychnos andamanensis Hill (Loganiaceae), and one from S. andamanensis and several cucurbits, are probably new to science.
