• The characteristics <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> site <strong>in</strong> this<br />
prec<strong>in</strong>ct, such as optimal water depth and<br />
flush<strong>in</strong>g from <strong>the</strong> Strait, makes it highly<br />
desirable for cultur<strong>in</strong>g pearl oyster species.<br />
• The proposed design and extent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> l<strong>in</strong>e<br />
flotation system must have m<strong>in</strong>imal impact<br />
on <strong>the</strong> visual amenity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> area, while<br />
ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g high maritime safety standards.<br />

• This site is with<strong>in</strong> a whale management area<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Great</strong> <strong>Sandy</strong> <strong>Mar<strong>in</strong>e</strong> Park, but is located <strong>in</strong> a shallow area surrounded<br />
by transit routes. Aquaculture equipment must be designed and managed to<br />
m<strong>in</strong>imise risks to megafauna.<br />
• Additional design and eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> structures will need to be considered<br />
due to high current speed.<br />
