All body cells can transcribe the CALCA gene Main triggers are G-ve lipopolysaccharides (LPS), G+ve cell wall antigens & bacterial toxins that react with Toll-like Receptors (TLRs) on cell surfaces. These cells secrete Procalcitonin, not calcitonin
