Consultation with Department of History
Dear Ikubolajeh,
I've consulted with my interested faculty on this proposal. At this point, the consensus is that
History has nothing of value to you as a dual-title partner, as we have no African history program
and have stringently limited our areas of graduate training in a way that is likely to limit future
partnership opportunities. That may change if I am able to realize my goal of hiring an
Lusophone Atlantic or Brazilianist in the coming years. That having been said, this is a very
realistic and useful dual-title program, one that is clear and does not impose unrealistic additional
burdens upon prospective applicants. That was the consensus of the faculty consulted (Tony
Kaye, Nan Woodruff, Russell Lohse) and from the administrative perspective, I think this a
really good proposal, particularly compared to an earlier iteration of a AAAS dual-title program
that I saw. I wish you every success with this and hope that my department can eventually join
you as a dual-title partner.
