Justin D’Ath
Meet Justin D’Ath, the author of over 40 books for children and young adults, including the hugely
popular Extreme Adventures and Mission Fox series. 2013 has already been a big year for Justin,
with the launch of the first two books in a brand new series Lost World Circus, and number 8 in the
Mission Fox series.
Fans of Justin’s Extreme Advertures can look forward to the forthcoming TV series, screening on
Channel Ten later this year Sam Fox: Extreme Adventures. The children’s adventure series described
as “Bear Grylls for boys”, is pitched at children under 12 and is based on a series of Justin’s adventure
books. The series is currently being filmed in South Australia.

Cristy Burne
Meet Japan’s mythical creatures in this fast-paced and funny presentation by Cristy Burne, author of
the award-winning Takeshita Demons series of adventures. Headless demons, hair-snippers, things
that go bump in the night…. Come prepared to laugh and learn. Cristy is also a science writer, editor
and presenter who has lived for three years in Japan

Ken Spillman
Ken Spillman is the author of approximately 35 books, around half of them for children. His work
includes the exceptionally successful Jake series for early readers, appearing in more than a dozen
countries across Asia, Europe, Oceania & North America. His adventure series The Absolutely True
Fantasies of Daydreamer Dev is also attracting many fans in India. Ken has presented sessions to
many tens of thousands of schoolchildren in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman,
Philippines and Singapore.

Elaine Forrestal
Elaine Forrestal is the author of many highly acclaimed and popular novels for children and young
adults. She has also written for television. In 2000, Graffiti on the Fence was shortlisted for the
same award.
All of Elaine’s other titles have either won or been shortlisted for the WA Premier’s Award, the
Hoffman Award (WAYBRA) and the NASEN Award (UK). She has travelled widely and presented
workshops in schools in Northern Ireland and France. Her presentations in schools, libraries,
festivals and conferences everywhere are lively and interactive.

Meg McKinley
Meg McKinlay is a Fremantle children’s writer. Her picture book No Bears and chapter book Duck
for a Day were both shortlisted for the Children’s Book Council Book of the Year Award and her
novel Surface Tension won the 2012 Davitt Award for Crime Writing. She also won the Society of
Children’s Book Writers and IllustratorsCrystal Kite Award in 2013.
Meg’s presentations are interactive and entertaining. Sessions cover aspects such as getting
inspiration from the everyday, growing a story from an idea, the stories that inspire Meg’s work and
her own writing journey (and for the littlest littlies, perhaps a stuffed animal or two). Meg’s most
recent publications are Wreck the Halls and Definitely No Ducks.

James Foley
James Foley is a children’s author and illustrator. His latest book, In The Lion, was released by
Walker Books in 2012. It’s a little like I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, but darkly funny
and set in a zoo. His debut picture book, The Last Viking, was written by Norman Jorgensen and
published in 2011 by Fremantle Press. The Last Viking won the 2012 Society of Children’s Book
Writers and Illustrators’ Crystal Kite Award, a peer-voted book of the year award for the Australia/
New Zealand region.
This book also won the Hoffman Award in the 2012 WA Young Readers’ Book Awards, given to the
highest-ranked book by a WA creator, and a 2012 Children’s Book Council of Australia Junior Judges
Award. The Last Viking has been shortlisted for a further four awards.

Perform! Musical
The brand new Book Week musical Space Jump has been created to celebrate the 2013 Children’s
Book Week theme ‘Read Across The Universe’, combining a love of reading with exciting physical
competition. Space Jump features a selection of the 2013 CBC shortlisted books and engages
students in the understanding that interacting with books and the products of our imagination offers
limitless possibilities for expanding our horizons.

Pyjama Storytime
Come along to your local Stirling library and celebrate Children’s Book Week with stories, rhymes
and songs. Bring your favorite teddy, wear your Onesie or PJs and enjoy some pizza too!
This session is held outside of school hours and is open to the public. You may want to advertise this
free event in your school newsletter so that your families have the chance to attend.
Bookings are essential. Families can phone their local library to book.

Brought to you by Karrinyup Shopping Centre and Barking Gecko Theatre Company.
Children from 2 - 5 years of age will embark on a new adventure as Rhoda Lopez from Barking Gecko
reads from popular children’s books, inspiring young minds while fostering an early love of reading.
This interactive 30 minute workshop includes a story reading, role-play (movement exercise), crafts
and music.
Each session is free and can accommodate up to 30 children. Parents need to remain with their
children at all times and it is recommended that children bring their own cushion/pillow for their
comfort while seated. Registration can only be made with Barking Gecko event staff in the Food Court
on the day of the Story Time just prior to each session starting.

Select the sessions that interest you from the program and indicate your preferences on this form along with your class
details. We suggest you select 3 to 4 session preferences.

be notified of first round offers by Tuesday 30 July 2013. Please fill in only one booking sheet for your class group.
