Formative Assessment:<br />
• A checklist for assessing student completion of the steps in the writing process<br />
Summative Assessment:<br />
• A rubric for evaluating the persuasive written product (see Appendix 2.4)<br />
Accommodations<br />
• Modify either time requirement or length of assignment to accommodate students with special needs.<br />
• Provide a scribe.<br />
• Attempt a comparative persuasive essay, e.g., comparing and contrasting two characters from the<br />
play. For greater challenge, examine who is the stronger female: Portia from The Merchant of<br />
Venice or Juliet from Romeo and Juliet<br />
