Assessment & Evaluation of Student Achievement<br />

• Strategy 2 has a list of questions, which should be structured as a worksheet <strong>and</strong>, on completion, be<br />

evaluated by peers for completeness <strong>and</strong> comprehensiveness of answers.<br />

• For Strategy 3, sensitivity to student answers is recommended. See Appendix 4.3.1 for one type of<br />

format which allows students to compare themselves to <strong>in</strong>dividuals <strong>in</strong> a variety of videos.<br />

Accommodations<br />

Students who have difficulties with the questions or worksheet could provide either written or oral<br />

responses to the <strong>in</strong>terview/storytell<strong>in</strong>g process. Some students might, with permission, play a video or<br />

tape record<strong>in</strong>g of an elder’s story.<br />

Students exam<strong>in</strong>e <strong>Aborig<strong>in</strong>al</strong> harvest<strong>in</strong>g practices associated with plants, animals, fish, <strong>and</strong> fowl <strong>in</strong> the<br />

various regions of Canada. Students <strong>in</strong>vestigate how <strong>Aborig<strong>in</strong>al</strong> traditional beliefs <strong>and</strong> values can be<br />

susta<strong>in</strong>ed through knowledge <strong>and</strong> respect for cultural traditions, spiritual values, <strong>and</strong> heal<strong>in</strong>g practices<br />

occurr<strong>in</strong>g with<strong>in</strong> the seasonal cycles. Students compare <strong>and</strong> contrast past <strong>and</strong> present practices <strong>in</strong><br />

different regions of Canada.<br />
