effects will be used during the performance.
Over 65 years ago, President Franklin Roosevelt saw the need for one organization to coordinate
and manage morale and recreational activities for a growing military in the months before the
United States entered World War II. He asked a number of groups to unite to form the United
Service Organizations (USO), and an American tradition began. He also insisted that the usa never
become part of the government.
Since February 1941, the usa has been the bridge between the American public and the United
States military. Providing service members with a safe place to relax and write a letter home was
crucial in reminding military members that their nation remembered and supported them.
That tradition continues today. The usa operates 123 centers in the U.S. and around the worldincluding
three centers in Southwest Asia - providing services from free internet access to current
movies and video games. The tradition of usa shows continues, with dozens of celebrities
entertaining hundreds of thousands of troops around the world, all year long.
The usa is a non-government, not-for-profit organization that depends entirely upon the
generosity of the American public. For more information, go to www.uso.org.
The usa and the usa logo are registered trademarks of the United Service Organizations,
Inc. While their use in this performance is permitted, no proceeds from ticket sales will
benefit usa programs. The author expressesgratitude to the usa for allowing us to
include this great organization in
STAN CHANDLER (Lawrence) 9/3 - 9/20
Stan is thrilled to once again share the stage with his brethren in Plaid, Larry and David. With his
beautiful bride Kirsten he has performed in concert at New York's Town Hall, Disney Hall (with the
California Philharmonic), and in many other prestigious venues. Together, they have produced a
critically acclaimed album (" A Quiet Thing "), a four-year-old son Addie (A Noisy Thing), and a sixmonth-old
son Tucker (A Jolly Thing). Stan has embarked on a second career in photography; some
of his images can be viewed at chandlercandids.com. Stan made his Broadway debut singing
"Tomorrow Belongs to Me" in the Hal Prince revival of Cabaret, starring Joel Grey. But he is
perhaps best known for creating the role of Jinx in the Off-Broadway smash hit Forever Plaid. He
can be heard on the original cast album, has gone on to direct the show for many regional theatres
across the country, and stars in the recently released movie, out on DVD in the fall. He also recently
reprised his role as Jinx in the holiday offering, Plaid Tidings. Southern California audiences have
seen Stan in a wide variety of roles; Nikos in Zorba, Tom in the west coast premiere of The Thing
About Men, Fred/Petruchio in Kiss Me Kate, Younger Brother in Ragtime, Kodaly in She Loves Me, the Baker in Into the Woods,
Edward Rutledge in 1776, the Duke of Windsor in the world premiere of Only a Kingdom, Tony in West Side Story, and a cornucopia
of characters in Forbidden Broadway (with Jason Alexander). Jacques BreI ... and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.
Diego area, Larry performed Ensign Pulver in Mister Robert with Robert Hayes and also Sparky in
Forever Plaid both at The Old Globe Theatre. Larry was a member of the original NY company of
Forever Plaid and also performed it on London's West End and at LA's Canon Theatre (Ovation and
LA Drama-Critics Awards). Look for Larry in Forever Plaid: The Movie which had a theatrical
premiere in July and will be on DVD in November. Other favorites include the Off-Broadway hits I
Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change (also at LA's Coronet Theatre), Forbidden Broadway
and received an '08 LA Stage Alliance Ovation Award for Best Direction. Thanks Sean, Josh, and Jennifer and Heinz.
DAVID ENGEL (Max)
David is a six-time winner of the LA Stage Alliance Ovation Award. He has appeared on Broadway
of La Cage Aux Folies and played an Aggie in both the stage and the film versions of The Best
Little Whorehouse in Texas. David created the role of Smudge in the original New York production
of Forever Plaid and again in Plaid Tidings. He and his fellow original Plaids filmed Forever Plaid
