In support of Trailnet developing a public education program for the Healthy & Active
Communities Initiative to prevent obesity through the design of the community. We are working
with organizations and institutions throughout the St. Louis region to develop and implement
policies promoting Active Living in four low-income communities most vulnerable to developing
obesity. We are working with community leaders and stakeholders to develop a holistic approach
including policy, education, programming, community planning, social marketing and physical
projects that support healthy and active lifestyles. The goal is to create community environments
that encourage people to be healthy and active.

Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Design

The Mayors’ Institute on City Design: Midwest is a National Endowment for the Arts Program to
educate city mayors on the importance of urban design in the development process. Annually,
mayors are invited to present case studies on any aspect of city design and to receive
professional advice and consultation on the issues.
Cities to which the Institute has provided consultation include Alton, IL; Appleton, WI; Bessemer,
AL; Bettendorf, IA; Bowling Green, KY; Champaign, IL; Chesterfield, MO; Clinton, IA; Columbia,
MO; Decatur, IL; Green Bay, WI; Hot Springs, AK; Inkster, MI; Kentwood, MI; Zanesville, OH;
Hutchinson, KS; Dublin, OH; East Cleveland OH; Evanston, IL; Livonia, MI; Waterloo, IA;
Waukesha, WI; Arlington Heights, IL; Belleville, IL; Dubuque, IA, Grand Island, NE; Mansfield,
OH; Minot, ND; Maywood, IL; St. Charles, MO; Terre Haute, IN; Vincennes, IN; and Neenah, WI.
The Mayors’ Institute for City Design Program received the 2000 Presidential Award for
Design Excellence.
Contract for Professional Urban Design Services to the City of St. Louis (1997 – 2000)

Contract to provide professional urban design services in the capacity of Director of Urban Design
for the St. Louis Development Corporation and the City of St. Louis to lead the design team for
the implementation of the Forest Park Master Plan, the development of the 1999 St. Louis
Downtown Action Development Plan, and the Washington Avenue Streetscape Plan.
