In support of Trailnet developing a public education program <strong>for</strong> the <strong>Health</strong>y & Active<br />
Communities Initiative to prevent obesity through the design of the community. We are working<br />
with organizations and institutions throughout the St. Louis region to develop and implement<br />
policies promoting Active Living in four low-income communities most vulnerable to developing<br />
obesity. We are working with community leaders and stakeholders to develop a holistic approach<br />
including policy, education, programming, community planning, social marketing and physical<br />
projects that support healthy and active lifestyles. The goal is to create community environments<br />
that encourage people to be healthy and active.<br />

The Mayors’ <strong>Institute</strong> on City Design: Midwest is a National Endowment <strong>for</strong> the Arts Program to<br />
educate city mayors on the importance of urban design in the development process. Annually,<br />
mayors are invited to present case studies on any aspect of city design and to receive<br />
professional advice and consultation on the issues.<br />
Cities to which the <strong>Institute</strong> has provided consultation include Alton, IL; Appleton, WI; Bessemer,<br />
AL; Bettendorf, IA; Bowling Green, KY; Champaign, IL; Chesterfield, MO; Clinton, IA; Columbia,<br />
MO; Decatur, IL; Green Bay, WI; Hot Springs, AK; Inkster, MI; Kentwood, MI; Zanesville, OH;<br />
Hutchinson, KS; Dublin, OH; East Cleveland OH; Evanston, IL; Livonia, MI; Waterloo, IA;<br />

The Mayors’ <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>for</strong> City Design Program received the 2000 Presidential Award <strong>for</strong><br />
Design Excellence.<br />
Contract <strong>for</strong> Professional Urban Design Services to the City of St. Louis (1997 – 2000)<br />

Washington University in St. Louis<br />
Contract to provide professional urban design services in the capacity of Director of Urban Design<br />
<strong>for</strong> the St. Louis Development Corporation and the City of St. Louis to lead the design team <strong>for</strong><br />
the implementation of the Forest Park Master Plan, the development of the 1999 St. Louis<br />
Downtown Action Development Plan, and the Washington Avenue Streetscape Plan.
