SPECIAL FEATURES INDIGENOUS GAMES Did you know that the game of AFL is partly inspired by Indigenous games using a ball made out of possum hide? What about clown? Explosive and high energy — look out as young community members and some of the cast of Kin battle it out in this exciting dance-off, led by Represent Volume II’s hip-hop sensations Indigenous Intrudaz and celebrity guest MC Sean Choolburra! Learn all the moves as you watch this amazing performance of skill and athletic ability. Keep a close eye on it all — you will be the judge! 28 January 2007 2.00–2.30pm \ River Room, GoMA TALKS AND WORKSHOPS WITH APT5 EXHIBITING ARTISTS Collaborating with artists to develop and present innovative programs for kids is an important part of the Gallery’s programming for kids. At the Kids’ APT Summer Spectacular, children can listen to APT5 artists talk about their work then engage with some of the artists’ ideas in hands-on workshops. Local artists will also present workshops throughout the festival. EX DE MEDICI eX de Medici has created cabinets filled with similarly coloured objects from the Queensland Art Gallery Collection for you to explore in this workshop. Respond to your favourite colour cabinet with a poem or picture. 13–17 January 2007 Artist talk 1.30pm / Gallery 6, QAG Workshop 10.30am – 12 noon Members’ Lounge, QAG KHADIM ALI For Kids’ APT, Khadim Ali did drawing classes with Afghanistani children in his homeland of Bamiyan. The drawings, displayed in Kids’ APT, show us the children’s views of their environment. In this workshop Khadim Ali invites you to draw your own environment. Come along to this fastpaced interactive performance where you’ll have the chance to show us some of your action hero moves! 18–22 January 2007 / 11.00am and 12.30pm River Room, GoMA HULA HAKA Swivel your hips to the Pacific hula and show your strength for the Maori haka. Join local Pacific dancers to learn the moves in this interactive performance. 23–28 January 2007 11.00am and 12.30pm / River Room, GoMA WORKSHOPS WITH LOCAL ARTISTS Local Brisbane artists have been invited to add to the fun of Summer Spectacular by presenting workshops for children that extend their own art practices, as well as ideas in APT5. VAN SOWERWINE What if you were able to look down on a tiny version of yourself? With Van Sowerwine, you can sculpt a small version of yourself to insert into a miniature set. 13–17 January 2007 10.30am – 2.30pm River Lounge, GoMA ALICE LANG Using fabric and a range of textured materials, collaborate with local artist Alice Lang and other kids to make an installation. 18–22 January 2007 10.30am – 2.30pm / River Lounge, GoMA GRANT STEVENS Grant Stevens creates video art works using well-known movies and songs.
