The Last push to the holidays ......
Dear Parents/carers,
Well, the sun has put in an
appearance and let’s hope that on our
key dates, it shines and shines!
However, we are British and tough,
and a spot of rain has never stopped
us at Littlemoor from doing things -
it’s just nicer in the sun!
It’s hard to believe we are in the last
throws of this academic year. It’s
been another great year for us. I feel
very proud of the staff and children
as I walk through school and see all
the amazing things that go on in the
classrooms and the work displayed
on the walls. The teachers have been
doing final assessments and progress
in learning has been great this year.
We know that our creative
curriculum is a major player in
helping us to achieve this and next
year when Mr. Gove brings in his
new curriculum we will have the
task of delivering his statutory
content without compromising our
zest and love of learning. Well, we
can rise to any challenge, so it’s
sleeves rolled up, thinking caps on
and bring on the creative thinking
contest!! We managed to deliver the
SPAG (spelling, punctuation and
grammar, not that you hadn’t worked
that out already!!) to year 6 without
compromise.
This term brings plenty of activities
and there will be no let up until the
23 rd July!

Marie Curie Tea Party
June 2013
Foundation 2013
Just before half term we held a welcome
evening for new parents. They are a
fabulous bunch of parents and I can’t wait to
meet the children when I go out to their preschool
settings in the next few weeks. As
ever, we were over subscribed for places so I
suppose they are the lucky ones.
Next year the staff in Foundation will be
Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. Blackburn, Mrs. Thomas
(teachers) Mrs. Cooke, Miss Waddington,
Miss Timmins (soon to be Mrs. Southern) in
support.
On Monday May 20 th we held a Marie Curie tea
party in the meadow. We had a fantastic
response both from parents and children and
raised £200 which is amazing. Thank you so
much. It is such a good and worthy charity and
sadly we have all had an experience of someone
who has had cancer.
Can anyone paint our
bridge?
We also have a piece
of wood to replace.

New Pupils
We welcomed Neve, Freya, Aadam and Zain to our school recently. They have all settled in very well and
it is as if they have been with us forever.
The Giant Walking Bus Experience
Last Friday we took part in a national
campaign organised by Brake to raise road
safety awareness. The aim was to get
motorists to slow down around school areas.
They wanted all schools to do a giant
walking bus. Well I bet ours was one of the
biggest!! All the children participated. We
paired the children up Yr6/F, Yr5/1, Yr4/2/3
and we held onto the washing line especially
bought by Mrs. Nott from a local
supermarket and began walking. It was slow
I admit, but nobody fell, nobody got ahead or
left behind and we had plenty of time to chat,
wave to the motorists, enjoy the sunshine and
make an impact on the community!! It was a
great success because cars did slow down and
we all felt better for a walk, even though it
took us 1¼ hours. Another first for
Littlemoor! There is a display in the hall and
pictures on our website. Please take a look.
THEME MEAL DAYS
June 25 th - Italian day
July 23 rd - Teddy Bear’s Picnic- hopefully
we can eat outside in the sun!! And yes
they can bring a teddy!
Training Days in 2013-2014
I have been asked already so here are the
training days for next year:

We start back on Monday September 2 nd .
The booklet with all next year’s dates will be
sent to you in September.
Wedding bells this summer
We have two staff getting
married this August. Miss Rigg
will become Mrs. Chaplin and
Miss Timmins will become Mrs.
Southern. Let’s hope the sun
shines for them.
SPORTS DAY
MONDAY JULY 1 ST
We will kick off at 9.15am-ish, with an
opening ceremony and games pledge. The
children will be working in teams as usual.
Please ensure all children have their school kit
please and trainers. At lunchtime the children
will all be having a packed lunch (those on
school meals will be provided with a packed
lunch). The day will finish with a medal
ceremony as we listen to the stirrings of
Chariots of Fire!
Last year we introduced the team flags and I
am pleased to report that every team now has a
button on their flag!! But who will win this
year? It’s all down to team work.
Parents are very welcome, morning and
afternoon but we must ask you to leave the
premises for lunchtime for health and safety
reasons. The PTA will be serving refreshments
all day.

School Uniform
With the warmer weather it is nice to wear a cool
dress or a pair of shorts. It is hard to find a dress in
the shops for the year 6 girls especially as so many
of them are so tall these days. We think dresses
should have a revival so I asked two of my year 6
girls; Alicia and Maggie to be models and wear a
school dress I had made and bang the drum for
dresses. They have been doing this and I must say
they look lovely in them. If any parent fancies
making one for their daughter I am happy to loan
the pattern.
Shorts are nice for the boys and they do nice
culottes for girls.
We have numerous discussions about footwear.
They can wear sandals, white, black, tan but not
bright pink or gold. I suggested the boys wear
trekking/walking sandals and girls can too. Flip
flop type footwear is not safe as children run
around the playground and mess about in the
meadow, so on health and safety grounds we do not
let children wear these. On really hot days socks
can be peeled off.
Please also note nail polish is not part of the school
dress code. It’s for weekends and parties.
Carnegie Athletics
On Saturday July 6 th in the
morning 9-12.00 we will
participating in the North West
Schools Athletics competition. This
gives the children the opportunity
to run on the big track, use a
proper high jump and long jump
and be part of a team. Last year the
event was cancelled due to the rain
so fingers crossed for sunshine!!
National Bike Week
Next week is Bike Week, when we can
get on our bikes and cycle to have fun,
keep fit and enjoy the fresh air.
We have built in cycling times every
day for classes and on Friday we want
everyone to bring their bikes for “The
circle of cycling” Bikes travel faster
than scooters so just bikes please.

Goodbyes
Mr. Latimer will be on his bike, as will I and some other staff.
Look out for us! Helmets must be worn, it is in our cycling policy.
Mrs. Eyre is taking early retirement in July and
Miss Worthy is going to university full time.
Good Luck to them both.

The first ever Rawdon Littlemoor Village Fair
On Saturday July 6 th we will be holding the first
ever village fair in the school grounds. The PTA
are working incredibly hard to make this a success
so please can I call on you to support this event in
any way you can by offering to help set up, serving
on the bar (men like doing this as much as they like
digging holes!), entering the competitions (I know
we have loads of talented parents and grandparents)
and just generally turning up and making it a
success.
Entry forms have been sent out already in book
bags and requests for BBQ tickets (that’s my job).
There will be games, singing and fun all round. I
have even ordered a Maypole so we could do some
dancing if it arrives in time. Miss Smith has offered
to do some Morris Dancing with the children. It’s
good to do something quintessential, so get making
that royal baby bonnet, victoria sponge, snapping
those photos, growing those flowers, decorating the
buns, and making your shopping bag. There is
something to cover all talents! And the real
clincher is .................there is a licensed bar!!
Baby news
Mrs. Edwards has returned from her maternity leave
and is back in Foundation teaching 4 days a week.
Mrs. Talbot will be returning after her maternity leave
in September working 3 days a week and teaching
across KS2.
Mrs. Ward will be returning from her maternity leave
briefly in July, but is moving to another school in
September.
So that is all our new mums sorted and back at work.
Just when we were feeling a bit bereft of babies to coo
about Mrs. Jarvis kindly stepped in and announced she
is to be a Mum in December so we can all get knitting
again and cooing of course!!
Skip till you drop
Year 4 are taking part in a skipping
festival at Benton Park on July 2 nd
from 9.30- 4.00. I doubt they will be
skipping the whole day but if they are
they WILL be fit to drop.
Year 1 Phonics Screening
The week of June 17 th - 21 st , will be the
National screening week for year 1
phonics. Mrs Law and Miss Rigg will
be seeing if the children know an alien
word from a phonic word! Don’t ask
just trust us that we are doing what we
are told by the Government.
Transition Morning
Wednesday July 10 th is
transition morning for all
our children (except year 6).
They will go into their new
classes, meet their new
teachers, support teachers
and prepare for the
following year by drawing
up their class rules and
mission statement.
