5 th Quarter Report: Achieved: It has been determined by the recently established 'Committee on Pre-Service Training and the<br />

Selection Process <strong>for</strong> Resource Parents' that based on the outcome <strong>of</strong> a staff satisfaction survey and a survey <strong>of</strong> resource families that<br />

GPS:MAPP, while it has many strong points, does not provide the training necessary to prepare families <strong>for</strong> the type children needing<br />

placement today. The outcome <strong>of</strong> this committee's assessment was that a more practical and relevant approach to training is desired.<br />

Consequently, a new pre-service curriculum is in the process <strong>of</strong> being developed. Foster care policy (1015) is also being updated to<br />

reflect these changes. The new curriculum will be developed by the Education and Research Section (<strong>for</strong>mally the Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

Development Section) with an anticipated completion date <strong>of</strong> July 2004. Staff, both public and private agency, will be trained <strong>for</strong> its<br />

implementation by September 2004.<br />

S8 ACTION STEPS: B. Assure foster parent participation in annual, competency-based in-service training.<br />

Evaluation: County or statewide system developed to track the status <strong>of</strong> required annual foster parent training<br />

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:<br />

Tracking and tickler system developed to track status <strong>of</strong><br />

foster parent training by providing quarterly reports to<br />

counties <strong>of</strong> training hours completed. Increased<br />

opportunities <strong>for</strong> continued parent development provided<br />

on both the state and the local levels.<br />

Evaluation: Additional in service training opportunities<br />

developed <strong>for</strong> foster parents.<br />

1 st Quarter Report: The State has contracted with a private provider who is piloting a system <strong>for</strong> tracking in-service training hours in<br />

one <strong>of</strong> the county DFCS areas. Method <strong>for</strong> measuring achievement: Continued implementation <strong>of</strong> pilot program <strong>for</strong> tracing in-<br />
